Help with Mustang Grips

I have two very nice sets of "The Original Mustang Grips" that were my dads. They appear to be highly figured walnut and I would love to use them. I know they fit a square butt revolver but won't fit any of my K/L S&W's. I don't currently have a "N" frame to try them on. They are marked with sixe 3. Does anyone know what gun they fit? If indeed an "N" frame S&W, can they be "re-cut" to fit my 686 SB?

Those are nice but they are not S&W. I believe they are Colt. The inside is a dead giveaway. The butt pin locator hole is in the wrong place and there is no rounded horn at the top.

It would not be worth the effort to try and modify them (IMO).
I'm sure there is a Colt collector that would enjoy them.
If I had to guess, I'd say they fit Colt Trooper
