Help with Pre 24

That's a damn fine 1950 44 Target. Looks like a righteous gun to me, practically new. The thumbpiece looks like it doesn't quite match. Have you checked for a re-work date on the left side of the grip frame near the butt? Of course that would only tell if it was factory refinished.

Did you get any history with it?

Looks right to me. They made those with two finishes; the beautiful bright blue that yours appears to have and a more "satin/gloss" blue which is on mine. Great looking gun! I have more rare ones but this one may be my all time favorite. Saw one on GB recently; as I remember the asking price was $2650.

Thanks for all the feedback! I didn't really get any history on it, just a name and it was their dad's who had it forever. On the left side of the frame, there is a "4" and a "B". On the right side there is a "4", a "H", and a sideways "C".

Grip frame is correct with no rework marks.

It's a fine first of your 1950s, too good to shoot. Does the recoil shield show any 'circles' where the rounds made impressions? I bet it doesn't and will have a uniform look across the entire surface.

Time for one in shooter grade and then the real fun will begin, great shooters. As you know S&W had been making the .44SPL round for decades before they made that gun and had refined it. ( yes, my favorite S&W gun of all time.)
