I have a S&W sheath knife, about 10 in total length, "survival"style, impregnated wood handle, brass knurled screw off cap on handle for inside storage, brass double hand guard, Bowie style blade, nice leather sheath, S&W crest/logo on blade and "1976" marking. The knife is excellent, but not mint condition. The handle and blade look new, but the knife has been bouncing around in a dresser drawer for many years and the sheath has a few "handling" marks--all minor. No box. I have owned it for 25-30 years, and don't remember what I paid for it, but I think it was about $50-60 back then.

Anyone know what this would be worth in today's market ? Thanks.

With your discription your knife may be one of two models

If it has a single guard : It is an Outdoorsman

If it has a Double guard : it is a survival knife ( I can't recall the model name and I believe that this one has a false edge on top as well as the regular edge)

In the condition you describe I would guess $75 - $100

Those knives were designed by Blackie Collins and were actually made by S&W - not liscensed out like the later knives.

Thanks, for the info.

It has the double guard. I thought it was the coolest thing I'd ever seen when I bought it, but it is just too big for most outdoor/camping uses, and too heavy to carry when backpacking. I think I was still thinking of killing VC when I bought it.

I want a Randall, and I'm thinking about selling some knives to off-set the cost.

I'm in South Carolina now, but an also Buckeye. We love it here, but these Rebel folks still hate Yankees (sometimes with good reason).

The $100 is getting into the high end of what the knife should bring. The knife is a Model 6030 Survival. Even though 17,500 were produced they are not seen often today. Sadly, there is not much interest in these Collins designed knives outside the S&W collector's community. It's not going to go far in getting you to the roughly $500 and up for a Randall. You might want to consider just keeping it for your S&W "stuff other than guns" collection which most of us seem to have.

If you decide to part with it, I'd consider running it in the Classifieds here and see what happens. You might do better than you would on FleaBay or at a gun show.

I've had this old S&W knife so long now that chences of me actually selling it are slim.

The reality is that I never sell anything, I just accumulate more and more "stuff". I have a knife made by Bark River Tool and Knife Co. that is as good as/or better than a Randall when it comes to its' utility -----but it's not a Randall.

It would be difficult to actually use a $500 knife. I think most Randalls today are kept as things to be admired/traded, but not used. I can live without one.

a few years back they would bring around 250.00 n.i.b. but as with all collectable items now there price has drop way down. your knife would bring you around 75.00 to 100.00 on ebay or other knife sites. i think you are right, keep it because when thing turn around in a few years you will get much more for it if you choose to sell it.

MOD 6030 Survival knife still survives...

Bought this back in the late 70's. Pretty impressive in its day, and I think S&W was pretty proud of them at the time.
Never really used this knife all that much, more wear and tear from the sheath than anything it ever got to cut. Nice, heavy blade, beautiful handle. Probably would have bought more if I had the money, but picked the 6030 as a favorite. Thirty years later....here it is:
