Greetings All,

After A LOT of research I finally picked up my new S&W M&P 15-22 from a local gun shop. I have a Mossberg 702 plink steer with thumbhole/tip-down stock I was very happy with but could not find large capacity mags for it so my search brought me to the .22 cal AR style platform. I must say...after having the two side-by-side their is no comparison in quality. I looked at the Mossberg tact model and it was **** compared to the S&W version.

The question...I am looking for an inexpensive red dot with slight magnification to put on it. I mostly shoot at targets 25-75yrds, plinking and the occasional vermit control. Any recommendations for a small tact scope with R/G dot that might work? I can't really justify spending $200+ on optics for a rifle I spent $429 on. I already have a TruGlo red/green dot open sight so if I could use that in conjunction with a magnifying optic that might work. But I would prefer a 2 or 3x red dot scope if available.

Thx for your help...can't wait to shoot this thing!

Telescopic "red dot" sights are not common. More common is a telescope mounted behind the dot sight like this Aimpoint CompM4s in front and Aimpoint 3x telescope behind.

These are genuine Aimpoints and either of them exceeds the cost of a M&P15-22  but there are competent clones on the market that do just fine with .22LR.

Update...I found a NIB TruGlo 4x32 illuminated red/green mil-dot reticle tactical scope for $59 on eBay so I bought it. It arrived a couple of days ago it looks okay for what I need. I hope to try it out this weekend and will report what I find. It will be interesting to compare this to my red/green dot open sight. Hope I didn't just waste $59 on this thing...
