I picked up a K22 with the large ejector rod knob a few days ago. It has seen plenty of use and has the wrong stocks. I want to find a set that gives it the right appearance. After reading most everything that I can find here I know that it should have the sharp shoulder Magnas. In addition to some from a Masterpiece, would stocks from other models such as a 38 M&P from the same time period be suitable? The gun already has character so no need to be too picky. What do you think?

Certainly, any stock intended for a K-frame is suitable. Not original, but suitable for use. Really not an important issue if the revolver is not in collectible condition. Some type of target stocks might be better if you happen to be a competitive shooter. I like the 1930s style service stocks you show much better than the sharp shoulder Magnas, and those look very nice. Worth more, too. I just bought another pair of them this weekend. Sharp shoulder Magnas show up frequently on eBay at reasonable prices if you want something period correct.

Welcome to this forum.

Nice find!

Can we presume the stamped number on the inside of the right stock does not match the gun's s/n?

Sometimes the service stocks are correct for post war guns. In this case not very likely but possible. As stated check the numbers on the inside of the right grip.
Any K frame sharp shouldered grip will work or even the later magnas. Such as K22, K38 or M&P. If you want to do some trading I might have a pair.

That is a nice looking K-22. I own its slightly older brother K 1722 shipped in May of 1947. I would call S&W and ask Roy Jinks what gun those stocks belong to. From there I would try to see if anyone here on the forum owns that gun. Always neat to reunite the original wood and metal. :D

That is a killer idea James. I did not know that Roy provided this service.
All of us have many old stocks that need to be reunited to the original guns. We have been asking about the "STOCK EXCHANGE" and reunited grip program for years!
We all appreciate this information!

As long as the original, numbered stocks are gone, treat this fine revolver to a set of unrelieved walnut, diamond center, target stocks. Not age appropriate, but sure will look good and are much better for shooting. Big Larry

It may have seen plenty of use but it sure photographs well. I just put a set of sharp shoulder magnas on my 5" 32-20 (141483) and they feel great. In fact I like them better than the rounded top grips. I think that little bit of extra wood at the top makes the difference for me. The stocks are in better shape than the revolver but all is well. Now to take it back out for some shooting. I know you will enjoy shooting your K22.
