I saw a nice-looking Henry .357 rifle at the gun shop today, used, for $500, very good condition. Does this sound like a decent price? Not familiar with what the Henry rifles are worth, I just know they are top-knotch guns. I was surprised to see a used one like this. But, people sell or trade in guns for their own personal reasons. Thanks in advance. Jeff T.

Sounds reasonable. Buds has them for$680 ish. Probably a nice shooting rifle. But I can't get past the loading port in the tube like a rimfire. I've read that people buy Henry's for cowboy action shooting, then realize it is not ideal for that sport and end up selling at a loss to buy Rossi's or similar guns.

I bought a used Rossi .357 and like it a lot.

The price seems reasonable. Just inspect it carefully as you would any used lever gun. Henry has a great reputation for CS and warranty. I have the carbine version of that gun and it's flawless. 357 magnum is my favorite for a lever gun, very mild blast and recoil and highly accurate with a wide variety of ammo.

Thanks, Folks.

The rifle is pretty short, but shop owner said it's a little too long to be a carbine. What attracted me to it (I don't hunt any more; not since the '80s) was it is short enough for home defense. It also shoots .38 spl, slightly less expensive. No scratches, clean barrel, very smooth action, and "plain Jane" enough that I could shoot it every day...not a safe queen. Now to talk with wife! Sounds like a good deal. I have the brass frame model and really like it - and will more when I get a sight combination figured out (but thats another issue)
Draw your own conclusions on the tube load system when you get it. Many like to criticize it and have never used it (.22 doesn't count) It takes a little practice but when you create a system for loading it is very fast and easy. The side gate system we are all familiar with on Winchesters & the like is great for LONGER rounds but for shorter the loading gate can be a finger pincher (for some).
If you get the rifle and experience a problem with the loading tube NOT sliding smoothly down over the rounds OR the lever 'kicking' open when you are doing so - PM me. This seems to be a common problem with the Henry and I discovered the cause and 'repaired' it and solved the problem.
