Got the hep in college eating bad food. Got Malaria "In Country" along with aoemibic dysentary, simultaneously. (that was fun).

Nobody wants my parts but I'm an "organ donor" nontheless.

I get chastized cause I don't participate in the blood drives. I try to 'splain that they can't use it for the reasons.

I get at least one, sometimes two malaria episodes a year.
Chills, sweats, trembling. It's a blast. It never leaves your body.

Anybody relate? Our Medics gave us the pills daily in the field for Malaria. Sometimes the SHTF and we didn't get them. It is what it is. Survival was more important.

Good thing I didn't develop a beer allergy....:):D;)

I never knew you could get hepatitis from eating bad food? I Googled it and was amazed...

Welcome home brother--- Yes, I can relate. I had both "versions" of Malaria, Vivax, & Valcifrium, ( Spelling?) I was told I could never give blood, Never considered organ's. Might have to run that by the VA. I also contracted Typhus while "In Country", that hit me harder the the malaria. They sent me down to the 6th CC in Cam Rahn for 45 days.

Have you ever considered donating your plasma though? They will take you still! I worked at Grifols Biomat USA for a while before school took over, and we took people all the time with Hep. I would find your local center, and give them a call! They generally pay $40 for the first time you donate that week, and $50 the next. They don't use it medically, they use it for research and when you have an episode they probably would harvest you and give you a special bonus. I remember one guy once had epstein-barr and when he donated we gave him $1100 for his 1 visit.
I encourage you to find out, plasma can save lives too!

Not excacly the same, but I can't give either.
Exposer to Hep. from when my father returned from Vietnam. For ayear he kept getting yellower and sleep problems, etc. Finally someone realized he had Hep.

I also can't give because of my time in the service. Mad Cow was rampent during the years I was stationed in Germany. The Red Cross informed me for some reason. My son makes up for it by donating monthly.

It never surprises me, the people who look down on another for not being able to (or even wanting to, for that matter) donate their own blood. Same goes for those who think you should donate a dollar to charity every time you checkout from certain stores. Nobody should make you feel guilty for being unable to donate.

I'm working on my 17th gallon as a blood donor in Augusta. Trust me you don't want a bear allergy -- I have one now. One beer (12 ounces) is just like getting ready for a colonoscopy. I "tested" 4 different brands with the same result.

Same here, FRG from 83-85. I learned that I couldn't give blood when I was in nursing school
