Hi Fastbolt. I was reading over some old threads on the CS9 and learned that the firing pin and channel need to be dry and clean. Sure wish I had done my homework before oiling the heck out of mine. At any rate, I want to remove my firing pin and clean everything up the way it should be, but I have no idea how to remove the innards of the slide. The manual that came with mine was just a general S&W auto manual that really didn't cover anything past field stripping.

Could you please give me a quick primmer? It certainly would be appreciated. Thanks for all of your valuable advice concerning S&W autos. I've learned more from your posts than all the others I've read combined. Additionally, your advice is always easy to understand and makes perfect sense.

Check out the 9th post down. Not exactly Fastbolt smooth or technical, but it helped me once. Thought it might be worth checking out at least.

How about detail stripping info for a S&W 3913? - THR

Thanks MLK18. I think that'll give me just what I need. I have a diagram from S&W, but it too covers several different models and none of the models shown look like my CS9. Just looking at things, I figured that black plunger on the left inside of the slide was going to be my friend. This seems to indicate it will be, because it appears to be the firing pin retainer.

Speaking of which, I shoot any kind of cheap ammo I can find and, unfortunately, it leaves behind a ton of brass chips from the primers. That's why I went wrong in the first place. I tried to clean the mess up and wasn't having much success. Since I couldn't clean it out, I decide that a little oil might help keep it moving smoothly. Didn't consider that it would gunk up so badly from powder residue, though. So, I plan to disassemble and clean it well. Then, in the future, I'll use a can of compressed air to address it. Did my Sigma yesterday and it's smooth as silk now. It sure was a mess, though, since I was oiling the heck out of the plastic sleeve. I pulled a ton of gunk out of it. Started with q-tips and wound up finishing with pipe cleaners and compressed air. Won't be doing any firing pin oiling in the future. Thanks again! :)

How mechanically adept are you?

If you can give me an email and a couple of days, I think I actually have something I wrote for someone once about this topic. I just have to look for it.

Hi Fastbolt. I'm fairly adept. Haven't taken one apart yet that I couldn't get back together. Maybe not exactly the first time, but I eventually get there.:) Anyways, I sent you a PM with my e-mail addy. I'll certainly appreciate any assistance you can render. Thanks again Bud!
