Welcome aboard from the Lehigh Valley of PA! If your local FFL will accept transfers, you can shop outside of NJ and have it shipped in for the paperwork.
Welcome from central NJ. I also started this later in life and have learned so much from this site which contains some incredibly knowledgeable people. I would especially recommend you heed Pizza Bob's advice since I know of it personally. Let's just say he is 'rather passionate' about S&W revolvers and helping others.
Welcome from a guy who grew up on the Jersey Shore. I relocated out in the Midwest years ago and have only been back for reunions and funerals.
I still miss the smells and views from the boardwalk and walks in the sand but I don't miss much more of the state.
Excellent choice for a 1st handgun. It is one of the classic S&W revolvers, reliable, rugged, accurate. I'd stay with 158 gr SWC or RNL and stay away from the hot 125 gr HP's.
I have a sister and family in Ramsey, as I understand your taxes are actually a little bit more than ours in IL. You have my sympathies.
I work at Shooters Sporting Center down in Little Egg Harbor. I know that is at least a 90 minute drive for you, but I think we have that gun on our shelf. Feel free to call the shop tomorrow. Ask for Dave G.
Welcome to the S&W Forum; from a fellow NJ resident. As mentioned, check out this forum for firearms and of course, these days, you have to search (far and wide; internet) to try and pick up your choice. My recent permits took 3 months so I understand. Anyway, there is a wealth of information within the forum, so take a day or two and explore!
Welcome from Pike County Pennsylvania. We escaped the People's Republic of NJ years ago. We love PA and love the Bucks area. Just remember not to vote your gun rights away when you move out to God's country!
NJ as well here, I did the same thing as you with a P1, Mine in .20 cal. I got in the late 80's . I bring it to work all the time, I work at many remote locations out in the woods and have ranges set up at each place i can get away with it.
