My dad asked me to clean his Hi Standard .22 Sport King. He has the 4.5" and 6" barrels. Only one magazine though. Would be nice to find a second. First gun I got to shoot growing up. I don't think it had ever been cleaned. Also, used Gunzilla cleaner for the first time tonight. Worked pretty slick.

Love the old slant grip High Standards.

Hand fitted and finished American made quality from a bygone era. If they were made that way now, no telling what the cost would be.

Did your Dad ever clean that gun???

Not to my knowledge. He only shot it a couple times a year if that. It didnt look that dirty until I took the slide and grips off. It was probably the dirtiest gun Ive ever cleaned.

Dad as well as a lot of other folks that have this notion that 22's do not need to be cleaned or if they do it's once a year or something.?? Never understood that concept. They are a gun and get dirty like any other. Some claim that accuracy actually gets worse from cleaning? Most 22 ammo is lubed lead and it gets dirty in other handguns why not 22's??

Anyway, those are nice guns, I have a Sport King with 2 barrels.

No after market magazine will work reliably in them, they are very fussy about the mag. There is a guy on Rimfire Central that is a guru of tuning the factory feed lips, made a little tool or jig.
HS in Texas is not the same nice company that the original was.

I have one High Standard. It was gifted to me by my
Uncle who bought it new around 1949. When I was young I would pester him to let me shoot it when he visited. Over the years I would ask him about it and tell him if no one wanted it I would buy it from him. He had 2 daughters who married no gun guys and one son who was taken hunting and shooting but never embraced it. After the son moved out of the house he never shot, hunted or fished again. One day I was talking to my uncle and he said, you've always wanted my old High Standard. Come by the house today and pick it up. I was shocked, offered current value for it and suggested it should go to his son. All fell on deaf ears, he wanted me to have it. He said his son would sell it and or the grandson has a felony drug conviction and he doesn't want it in that house. It is one of my prized possessions and will go to my son or his son.

I have a Trophy 106. I bought 2 extra magazines right from High Standard. Did have to tune the lips a bit but on their sight they give instructions. I made my own adjustment tool.

I bought an extra mag for my HS Victor from Brownells.
They sell the same mags as HS Texas, so you can buy from either.
Do not buy Triple K mags as they are said not to be reliable.
Expect to pay around $50 like I did.
The one I bought worked fine out of the box with no tweaking.

I picked up a new HS magazine at a local gunshow recently for my Hi Standard HD Military. Cost me $49.00 but it works as well as the original that came with it.

I found one, and it has been a jamamatic. One mags springs are bad. Not sure about the other. There is site that has measurments for the feed lips.

I'd like to get a spare mag too. This gun just sits on the shelf, it is just to annoying. But I have read good things about them.

I stole this pic off the net years ago but this thread makes me want to share it.

Model 104 Supermatic Trophy.

I think model 104 Trophys were the last model to get the high polish bluing. I think with this model HS made its finest examples.

Thanks for sharing that pic. It is a beautiful example.

Here's mine a High Standard S-101. MANY years ago I bought one just like it, new, for $75. It taught me how to shoot NRA Bullseye. I traded it on a S&W 41, which I still have, When I saw this High Standard at a recent gun show, nostalgia made me buy it. It's just as accurate as the one I had so long ago.

Hi-Standard

Here's my Model "D" ser no. xx202 inherited from my dad. It's a great shooter but sure would like grips to fit my LEFT hand as well as it fits the right!

Does anyone know date of mfg or any other tidbits?

I just bought my first High Standard .22 auto at the gun show this past weekend. I do already own a couple of High Standards but they are revolvers - a .22LR/.22Mag Sentinel that looks like a little Python with a long ramping front sight, and a Crusader .44 Magnum (one of only 500 built).

The pistol I got is an HD Military. I really don't know a thing about it other than I thought it looked pretty cool with the exposed hammer. Unfortunately this gun show didn't have any good book tables, so next Wanenmacher show I'll have to find something so I can read up on it.
