A Hideout, man cave, trophy room or just a get-away place to fish or hunt and leave the real world outside that little kingdom for a few days.

I’ve known places where one can relax with family or a few close friends. One of those places where you can walk out to the corral and shoot the center-fire guns and not make the women folk jump at the house.

Where you can sit in the evenings with a cup of coffee or a sip of whiskey and reminisce about old times with men that have the same memories and same stories. Each told in their own time and own way.

Just sittin' on the porch and thinkin', do you remember the time we...

Great story Dave...would love to get together at that cabin with a good whiskey and a few stories.

BTW did you ever get a phone that works??

Out at my hunting club . . . is my little hideaway. For some reason, I really LOVE that thing! Just the right size for quiet relaxation.

keith44spl,
You and I have quite a bit in common.
I'll turn 60 on 19 May, and tend to reminisce more as I get older.
I spent 2 years in the Marine Corps (68-70) followed by 27 years 7 months as a full-time police officer. 4 years 9 months of that was as a full-time tactical officer (imagine being able to play with guns ALL day every day and getting paid to do it.)
Anyway, in the evening, I sit with about 2 fingers of Jack Daniels and just think of the 'good days' gone by. I'm very happily married to a woman 14 years my junior (25 years this year) and we have 2 wonderful sons. Oldest is in his 5th year in the Marine Corps, deploys to Afghanistan mid-April. Youngest grauates from high school this June and heads to Parris Island on 27 July for his 4 year hitch.
I get frustrated and depressed thinking what the next 4 years will probably bring politically, but overall I guess I can't complain too much. An added bonus is beating prostate cancer last year (total removal.)
Thanks for the memories - you and I are real lucky guys.
Semper fi,

Dave Swaffield

I love the porch light on C&Ls house. Think there might be a redneck there?

...and how about that cool creek at the back of the house, glittering with gold dust (didn't know what it was then) - fishing with bow and arrow 'cause we had no fishing "gear" - and riding old hornet bareback to my dad's watermelon patch and sweet corn - and "hunt" with my trusty sling shot 'cause we had no rifles - and "horse-trade" (barter) for our daily necessities 'cause real money was nearly unknown then... and I could go on, but won't.

I used to have one of those places when I was a teenager, in High School. It was a cabin that sat on top of a hill due West of Mt. Rainier and was at 2005' so it was cold in the Summer and not bad in the Winter - little snow. It was a one mile hike into the cabin and the surrounding land was DNR or other land that was pretty much open to the folks who wanted to use it. I had use of it because the SAR(Search and Rescue) group I belonged to used the land for training and all we had to do was let the 'Boss' know we were going up. I 'could' have been a terrific place to hunt but during the Hunting Season we spent most of our weekends in the woods looking for hunters rather than hunting.

There was a river a fairly short ways below the cabin that offered some really great fishing and the small game were abounding in the area.

We could shoot and a number of us did while we were up there and we had a a very nice shooting range set up. Nothing fancy because most of us didn't know all that much about shooting, just that we really enjoyed it. That plus the peace and quiet.

Now there are three houses built up on that hill top and most of the area around there is closed by the current land owners.

Keith,

Another of my favorite hideouts, 12 hrs. in from the end of the road...kind of a 'Hole in the Wall' thing...

Su Amigo,
Dave
very nice leather work !!

I have a couple places..my lake place and
the old beach house.
But being a deer hunter,I do alot of deep thinkin while sitting in a stand...This is my favorite that I like to hunt from. Having the "mule" covered with camo..watchin lots of various critters crossin the road coming within a few yards of where I sit. Deep in the woods very peaceful.
Just a nice place to sit and think about days past and..... sometimes blow the ever livin snot out of a good East Texas buck.

This is where I go to get away. I have a native trout stream 10 feet off of my back porch and if I don't feel like moving much, I can sit in my rocker and fish. Stepping across the creek gets me into a few thousand acres of Allegheney National forest. Large population of bear, white tail, turkey and I'm polluted with ruffed grouse. I've had to shoo more than one black bear off of my porch in the past few years but they all seem to dissapear when bear season rolls around.
