Number 5 was almost me when I was in 2-5. The teachers kept saying I had hyperactivity disorder, I guess the precurser to ADHD. My parents recognized it for what it was, the education wasn't at all stimulating, I was bored as were most of the strudents and the teacher didin't want to deal with me. I didn't get drugged up thankfully.

Let me add one more that fits almost every scenario:

"Parents of all students involved sue the teacher, principal, all staff members including the janitor, Board of Education members, and the police chief and all officers for whatever their lawyers can think of."

your number one was close to me when i was in grade school, during the 50s. when in 6th grade i used to take my 22 rifle to school in the fall to go rabbit and squirrel hunting after school. had to get permission from principal and teacher. hung it by the sling on a coat hook. had to keep ammo in pocket and rode bike the mile or so from to go hunting. try that these days. as stated above, the police would be there in an instant. was no big deal back then.

Having graduated from high school in 1957, those scenarios ring true. I can remember withdrawing an M1 Garand rifle from our high school ROTC armory to compete over weekends in high power rifle matches in Phoenix. I simply propped the rifle in the corner of each class until I was ready to go home. No one then gave it much thought.

In the 1980s, my mother was a high school teacher, and requested that I bring in a couple of guns to show her class in American history. I brought in a Civil War 1861 rifle musket and an AR-15 to illustrate the differences in small arms between the two periods. No problem, no permits required, no police escort, no outright refusal by the school administration, etc. The students were very interested and asked thoughtful questions. We all had a good and educational time.

Times have indeed changed.

Oh yeah. And I got talked to about my Remington coffee cup at the office. Not to mention my Winchester watch cap, Ruger pens, bullet keychain, etc.

I told them: "The shrink says having things from home in my work environment helps me cope with my rage-aholic tendencies. By the way, has anyone seen my Glock stapler?"

I do what I can in the war against PC. Actually, two of the ladies have quietly asked me about signing up for CCW class, so there is some progress being made.

Not in 1957, but in 1966 a college student is goofing off in football practice. The head coach, a former Marine drill instructor from WWII, kicks the player in the ass followed by profanity-laced threats of what will happen to the player if he goofs off again. The player learns his lesson and works hard in practice for the rest of the season.

In 1999, the player runs into his former coach. They remember the incident and laugh about it. The player tells the coach all that he accomplished since graduation, and he asks the coach if he is proud of what the player has done. Yes, he is proud of what one of his boys has done. And did the kick in the ass help make the player the man he is today? Damn right it did.
