Can you post what you got?
Every letter I've seen began with a history of the evolution of that particular model, and then concluded with the ship date and destination, along with the original features that it left the factory with . . .
Gee, that's strange, every one I ever got stated the actual date my gun was shipped from the factory, where it was shipped, and the configuration (barrel length, grips, etc.) it was shipped as. That is one heck of a lot more than you get from Colt for twice as much.
Please post what you received, and possibly an error was made which I'm sure would be corrected.

The factory historical letter (now "letter of authenticity") can be limited by available information to the letter author(s). The 1917 Army will usually have a ship date to Springfield Armory and not much else, because that is all that is known; any details about specific unit or individual issue without a personal or family history of a gun will not be in any records. I have the letter on one to prove this.

Yeah, we're all just human; but check that envelope VERY carefully. One of my more recent letters had a hand written note (on notebook paper) along with it----from HISSELF----saying what a great find this gun was. I kept that too!! Some's good, more's better, and too much is just right!!
