History of S&W 1086 10mm DAO models?

I did "letter" my 1086. Roy did not address who the 1086 was developed for...but said " The first production Model 1006 was manufactured in February of 1990. This was soon followed by a short run of other 10mm pistols such as the Models 1026, 1046, 1066, 1076 and the 1086."...Further he lists the total production of this series as:
"Model 1006 26978 units
Model 1026 3135 units
Model 1046 151 units
Model 1066 5067 units
Model 1076 13805 units
Model 1086 1660 units"

My particular 1086 "was shipped on December 12, 1990 and picked up at Smith & Wesson Employee Sales by S&W Employee......"

I have enjoyed shooting my 1086 but as another member mentioned, the night sights are long gone...still have not decided what to do...my old eye do better with U type sights in back and Fiber Optic up front.

Enjoy your fine 10mm. The Sig Sauer 180 gr 10mm ammo is my "go to" 10mm right now...its seems to be the "closest" to real 10mm and not out of reach price wise $$$.

Does anyone know if the PD units are more valuable than non-PD units? Does anyone know where the ser numbers start for these guns? Mine is 9000. Is there any significance to that number?

I am retired from the Winston-Salem (NC) PD and was issued a 1086 in about 1990. When the City replaced the weapons a short time later, we were allowed to purchase the weapon we carried. I purchased mine along with the original box and 3 mags. The City replaced the 1086 with Model 4043. Still have both of these weapons.
