does anyone have a suggestion for a good holster for a 3" 629-5? I'll be using it in the woods up here in Maine and N.H.

Take a gander at these two sites and see if you find anything you like. Personally, I own a couple of holsters from Dave Bullard(for concealed carry) and the rest are 1920 Tom Threepersons from El Paso Saddlery. I use those in the field exclusively and am very happy with them.

Try TT Gunleather. Have had this one for awhile and it's holding up great. Also carries the revolver very comfortably. Missed a belt loop as I was in a hurry to take the pic so the gun actually pulls in tighter.

stmry,
You won't find a better holster at this price. $35 for the Shado thumbreak. I have several and my younger brother has a couple. The folks at Rays are great to deal with too. The holsters are made in South Africa. Check out the customer reviews at this website and you'll see what I mean. Oh yeah, I have several of their large leather range bags. Great prices!

A holster for a 3 inch "N" frame [629] is easy to solve.
Find an old used N frame holster and cut the 4 to 8 inch holster down to fit the 3 inch barrel. I do that all the time.

I bought this 4" Galco 'cause I wanted a field holster for both a 3" & 5" N frame. Cool thing about this Galco is I can wear it strong side or cross-draw. The cross-draw function is important to me when carrying a rifle on a sling.
Here's a pic with the 5".
