Holster but No Gun

As usual, went out for a 2 ~ 3 mile walk yesterday morning. When we got home, started to take my gun off my belt and realized while I’d put on my holster I’d left my gun at home.

First time that’s happened…

It will not be the last either.

Wait till you have a Senior Moment at the Dentist's Office.

When I was in school many, many, many years ago I had a morning "mantra" where I would physically check all pockets for money, knife, comb, keys, billfold and handkerchief as I was sure to need all of these sometime during the day. Today I would add gun to the list.;);) I also still remember the combination to the lock on my locker.:D

Stuff happens. This will keep it from occurring in the future when you might need it.

This was not a senior moment; it was a surprise moment in 2020 when I went to make final preparations for my bilateral knee replacement. I did not expect another X-ray.

The technician came out and asked me, "Is that a .38 or a .357?".

I was shocked that the picture showed the gun so I asked if I could take a photo of the X-ray and he agreed.

Would have been a different story if it had been an MRI.

Yeah, it happens. Back in my working days it was much simpler. My holster stayed on my belt, which stayed on my jeans, always. My EDC gear - gun, spare mag, knife, light, money clip, wallet, key fob, work keys - stayed on my dresser overnight, and got onboarded all at the same time. I literally couldn't leave home without all this stuff.

Since retirement it has gotten more complicated, mostly because my routine is entirely unpredictable and flexible. And although my mind stills seems to be pretty sharp - but don't ask my bride - it does seem to be easier to lose focus, even mid-thought, so the holster has left the house a bit on the light side from time to time.
