Hi All...
I'm finally going to brake down and buy a new rig for the 5" 629. I've been carrying it in a makeshift rig I worked up and it's just not cutting the mustand. I did find a kydex holster, but I'm thing leather or something like Uncle Mikes to carry on the shoulder.
Any Suggestions? Favorites? All info appreciated... Thanks...

For my 625 i have the galco phoenix belt holster. For shoulder i would look at their vertical rigs. The uncle mikes flops around a bit with that heavy of a gun.

good luck,
b.

Thanks Rodcraft...
Yes I have a Phoenix for one of my 1911s.
And yer right about their vertical rig... But, I just can't seem to find a holster that isn't 3 inches too long or an inch too short!:(

And, I realize I'll likely need to strap it to my belt to keep it secure... That's the problem!
Too many variables and not enough specifics for the 5" barrel -

This has been a thorn in my side for 4 years now!
I might need to have one made to order???
Thanks,
TJ

Kramer made a horsehide holster for a 5" and I found one by Ross from South Africa. The Ross hoster was made for the full underlug barrel, but I think the Kramer was for the slim profile barrel. Safariland made one many years ago but are hard to find. I have chased a couple but missed out.

The best field holster I have ever found for the big N's are the Milt Sparks 200 series or the El Paso Saddlery Tom Threepersons design. Both available in 5".
These are heavy guns, so one also needs a proper belt to keep everything secure. So many guys will buy a quality holster, then attach it to a thin, whimpy belt...then complain as the whole rig flops around.

Look for a Safariland 568 holster. Got mine through Midway and it works great for my 625-2.
