The 686 4" (7 shot) was purchased about ten years ago, primarily for the home. I have since purchased 6 other guns for carry but would like to carry the Smith 4". It is still the most accurate gun I can shoot and for this reason, I would like to start carrying it.
What would be a good OWB holster for this? I really like to have something tight to the body. I have a few Galco speed scabbards for other guns but would like something even closer to the body. Any suggestions? Anyone have the Bianchi?
I would prefer, no thumbreak.

I've worn the Bianchi Shadow with a M-64 and M-66. It rides high and tight. Not sure if they still make it.

If you can find one of Roy Baker's old Pancake rigs, those were also good.

The M-686 is pretty big for a concealment gun. Good luck.

Check out Mernickle holsters. I have several for L and N frames. They hug my body well and keep the gun close to you. Remember your belt has a-lot to do with holster concealment. Do not just use a regular store bought belt to carry with spend the money and get a belt that is double thickness and will hold up to carrying the weight and wear for long peroids of time. I carry as a cop everyday..A comfortable holster is hard to find, concealing your weapon is even harder if you have a belt not made for carrying that extra weight. By the way I carry a S&W model 625 with a 3" barrel all the time and with my Mernickle concealment system you do not even know it is there.

Yeah, I do have some good belts. Galco double thick and 5.11 Tactical. They do make a big differance. But even with them, my Beretta PX4 in a speed scabbard sticks away from the body somewhat.
Am going to check out Mernickle. Thanks.

You need to go with a custom holster maker. The big companies are great for mas producing holsters, BUT if you spend the money you will not be sorry. My holster I can wear strong hand and cross draw. I carry Crossdraw for comfort and accessibility reasons. The thing is I have tried a ton of holsters until I found a manufacturer I liked. In my case I need to stick with a custom maker. In your case you might find one of the BIG companies would work for you.

I have the Bianchi pancake for my 4" 686 and I really like it. I have custom holsters for other guns, but I have to say the Bianchi does a really good job of keeping the 686 tight against my body. Also, it rides high, which I prefer. It's true Bianchi does not use the highest quality leather, but for what I wanted (affordable OWB concealment), I'm very happy with mine.
