Holster for a Model 15

Hello everyone...I'm hoping one or many of you could help me out. My father owns a S&W Model 15 4inch barrell. He had recently shown interest in getting a new holster for this revolver, and of course being that its the season, I figured I would pick him up one for christmas. He seems to like the ease of a paddle holster so I was focusing on them, and if possible having the ability to be positioned crossdraw (he's right handed). He's also a bit "classy" so I was thinking a leather holster or a leather wrapped kydex. Honestly I dont know...I've been looking around and it seems that a lot of holsters are pretty generic for revolvers and dont specifically mention that it fits the model 15. I just want to be sure it works. Can anyone give me some suggestions?

Try a Bianchi 5BH or BHL (lined) belt holster. Paddle types either fit the person or don't; crossdraw has it's issues, IMO.

Generally, these will be marked S&W K frame, 4" barrel.

I'll second ColbyBruce's choice, the Bianchi 5BHL's are my favorite holsters for the K's. The Tom Threepersons style holster is also a classy ride for a K frame. Here's a pic of one by El Paso with a 1950 vintage K-38 Combat Masterpiece in it.

The Bianchi 5BH is a great holster but I would like to add their model 8 Shadow pancake style. Vulcan Bob the is a very nice Tom Threeperson holster. I believe I read somewhere that El Paso was one of the first to offer it. IIRC Tom Threeperson asked them to make him a holster to his specifications. Threeperson was quite a lawman in his day.

I have a old Bianchi 8 Shadow

for a snubbie J frame. Middle row, smack in the middle. The three on the right of the middle row are Bianchi 5BHL's and a 5BH on the end. The Shadow does carry the gun high and tight, it conceals real well. Mine does not have double belt slots like the newer series does. Safariland makes (or made) a holster very similar to the Bianchi 5BH/L.

You should look at Diamond D Custom Leather. They don't have the paddle that you are looking for but they have a great hip holster they call their Dual Action. Strong side and X-draw. He'll walk you through the entire process and give you sound recommendations. I like crossdraw for hiking, but not for a self defense weapon.

Lobo is quite active on a leather working board that I subscribe to, he makes some very nice Threeperson holsters among other styles. He seems like a very nice guy.

2nd the recommendation on Lobo holsters. Go to Lobogunleather.com and look over what he offers. and it will be custom to fit just what you want, and probably cost less than an off the shelf holster.

This is one he made for my Mod. 19 2 1/2", I have three of his now.

Instead of a paddle holster which have a tendency to flop and not be secure; try a snap on holster for ease of putting on and taking off.

Ray at Lobo makes those also.

Thanks for all the responses. I checked out all the suggestions. Those Lobo holsters look really good...and I do think I'll look at getting him the snap loop retention rather than the paddle. I might even have to get me a new one....

This is a little off subject...didnt really want to add a nother thread to the mix. I was also looking at getting him a couple speed loaders, and I was leaning towards the Safariland Comp II's. Problem is...on the site it states that the model J-K2C will fit the Model 15 revolver, however in checking other sites for pricing their description for the same model says its a 5 round speedloader. Well the model 15 is 6. So...I was hoping that someone might actually own one and could verify for me that it is indeed the J-K2C model I'll need to buy him...Thanks!

I prefer speed strips to speed loaders. A little slower to reload but much easier to conceal if you're carrying that revolver concealed.

I'd make a phone con to Brownells on the speed loaders. Them folks are very helpful and will set you straight.

H Richard, that is a fine looking Lobo holster you have. Did you get any extras on it such as leather lining or boning detail ( which it looks like it has ). Does the holster hold the gun securely? Do you own any of Lobo's gun belts? How do they hold up over time? Thanks!
