I don't think there is a standard J frame holster. I bought a S&W belt holster which advertised on the box that it would fit a Centennial and it will not come close. I can stuff a 36 in it but not a 37-2 and the retention strap goes around the back of the triggerguard, not over the hammer area. The variation in the J frame dimensions (.38 to .357) over the years might preclude a standard fit. Just my opinion.

A new holster should fit just fine. When S&W started making the 'magnum' J-frame, they lengthened it by a tenth of an inch or so. If anything, your old frame would be a little too small. But we're talking about a fraction of an inch, so I doubt you would be able to notice.

Not sure if your '52 is a "Baby Chief" or not...I really need to study up on the older J's. If it is, you may run into trouble with the trigger guard not fitting some modern holster designs.

Yes, it is a "Baby Chief," with the smaller trigger guard.

Should fit. Here is one of my ancient one that fits several of mine.
