Hi folks,

I've been looking online at holsters and getting frustrated. I have this rule (or is it compulsion?) that every gun must have a holster even if I have no plans to carry it CCW.

To that end I'm looking for a simple, effective and relatively inexpensive OWB holster for my new (old) DAO 64-5 4 inch. It doesn't need to be period specific or fancy & pretty - it just needs to hold the gun.

I figured it would be cinch to find a simple belt slide or even a nylon holster but I'm just not finding much for a bobbed hammer.

I'd sure appreciate some suggestions - thank you kindly!

Hi Hemi,

I sure understand your frustration. I, too, have shopped for a commercial holster for my 64-6, which has a bobbed hammer, and was not successful; so, I intend to ask Ray Cory (Lobo Gun Leather) to make me one of his Threepersons holsters for my revolver. He has made me several holsters, and each is superb in design, materials, and craftsmanship. His prices are very reasonable, and his service is excellent. To be sure he is not the only holster craftsman, but he is the best value I have found in twenty years of carrying a sidearm.

He will make this holster without a strap or hammer thong, and the holster sits lower on the belt than most other designs (which I find helps me draw a revolver with a 4" barrel much easier). He can also suggest other holsters and features which could be better suited to your needs. I just received two holsters from him, and the waiting period was only five weeks. This is shorter than back-orders from a retailer such as Midway.

I hope this is helpful to you.

Best wishes,
Rushbeau

Thanks Rushbeau. I looked at Ray's site and sent him a message to discuss options. The holster you're getting looks really nice but a fully covered trigger guard is a must for me so I can't go that route. I mentioned the pancake but also told him I'm open to suggestions. Of course, it doesn't fit my inexpensive requirement but there's something very appealing about the Field Flap model as well. Again, thank you, sir!

Lobo's pancake is very secure and covers the trigger guard. You can wear it in the great outdoors, or to a formal wedding under a sports coat or a Tux.

Outside of a wrestling match, it would be difficult to lose your 64. I've got more of Ray's holsters than I have fingers and I still have all of those. Great product at a great price. While price is always a consideration, a quality product is even more so. When I was a young man I was hiking in the Clearwater wilderness area, when I came to a log that had fallen across the trail. Lying beneath the fallen tree was a new looking Model 66 4". Somewhere there was a hiker bemoaning the fact that his new 66 was no longer with him. Don't put a valuable 64 in a cheap holster. It might not be there when you need it.

Hemi 45, I don't know what part of Florida you're in, but the big Lakeland show is this weekend. It's spendy ($12admit+$8parking) but I guarantee you could find a dozen different holsters in the "bargain bins." I'm driving 65 miles each way and I'll gripe about the cost but it's worth the trip if you've never been. Joe

I picked up a Desantis off that bay store for a bobbed hammer 64. Mine was for a 2 inch. They were produced for the NYPD. I'm not sure the model, but it can be worn either on the belt or inside the waistband. It's been a couple years but I believe they had it for the 4 inch as well.

For $25 delivered my 'need' has been met. However, if down the road I decide to actually carry it out into the world this thread has some great suggestions. Again, my thanks to everyone!
