I'm doing research for holsters for my new shield. I've read some posts and looked up the brands people have mentioned. The ones I'm looking at are hidden hybrid, crossbreed supertuck, remora carbon carry, and old faithful. I have some questions about comfort and material. Looking at the online pictures, the part that touches your skin looks to be very stiff and uncomfortable. I had a high noon holster before for my revolver but there was no backing so I've no experience with these. I saw a youtube review of the super tuck and it looked great. I love the idea of it being adjustable for height/cant. What is the benefit of horsehide? It's more money but I don't know if I need it. Hidden hybrid has polymer clips, I don't know if those are better than the standard clips. Remora is on sale so that's a benefit if they are pretty much the same.

I am also looking at getting a pistolwear PT2 for running. I've read that you should also have it in a pocket holster and some have mentioned Desantis sticky pocket holster. Has anyone used this combination?

Is anyone willing to post pictures of their Shield in the holster so I can see what they look like with that specific gun please?
TIA

edit-spoke to cs at Cross breed, she suggested the premium cowhide instead of the horsehide. She said it was easier to break in and more comfortable.

The first Hybrid clone I bought was the Comp-Tac MTAC and it was ok. It had a more refined leather backing than some of the other clones, ie, the screw's were covered by leather. It was comfortable for the most part. When the shell broke I looked around and found the Bianchi Model 135 Suppression holster. It's basically a hybrid clone too but it does not have leather against your skin it has a mesh covered foam backing that is very comfortable. And the clips are C-clips and disappear on a black belt. Also keep in mind some holsters belt clips are HUGE or have emblems on them that stick out like a sore thumb.

Here's a pic of me wearing it. Wearing Holster

so I always thought with a hybrid like this, it was best worn at 5:00 position, behind the hip bone. I typically like to wear my holsters about the same position as you have in your pic. How does this type of holster do wearing in that position? Is it too much curving around your waist and hipbone? Comments. . .

also, check out AlienGear. They offer both a leather backed holster and their new version which is neoprene.

I can't speak for all hybrid style holsters, but my old MTAC and now this Bianchi Model 135 work just fine in the 3 -3:30 position. I've been wearing it in this position for over 7 years now, no issues with it conforming to my hip at all.

Is that the 3.0? I just took a look at the site and it looks nice and the price is right. Only thing is 4-5 week turnaround time.

I have several hybrids from the major manufacturers and some smaller local makers. If you are set on Hybrid you've heard/looked at some of the best already. Another option that might be more comfortable but still versatile is the Cuda (can be either IWB or OWB).

Cuda - Leather Concealed Carry Holster

This is one of my most favorite holsters (and I have some that are twice as expensive ...)!

Here's my Kimber Pro Carry II in the Stealth Gear Onyx.
Super comfortable, although a bit pricy.

My Shield in a Galco King Tuk.
Again, very comfortable.

The only issues I've seen with the CrossBreed is that anyone that orders it without the "combat cut" is disappointed and wished they had it with the combat cut.

I have the hidden hybrid and compared it to my brothers alien. Imo the HHH is easily worth the extra $. My brother never liked the alien much, to stiff not comfortable so when I suggested a firearmholster.com holster (he has to be different and did not want what big bro has) he got that one. Still like my HHH better but the firearmholster.com is also very nice.

That Stealth gear material looks nice. Is the hardware on the back side covered? disregard, found it on their website.

I carry mine in either an Alien Gear Cloak Tuck 2.0 or the N82 Tactical professional series holsters. Both are very comfortable. The N82 is a single clip IWB holster that is very easy to put on and take off. The backing also completely isolates the gun from touching your skin which I like. It is slightly awkward at first due to the retention and how you have to twist the gun to draw it but with a little practice it gets very easy.

For me, I have to wear an undershirt tucked in behind the Alien Gear because it lets the grip of the gun rub my skin. Only takes about half a day of carrying before I get a pretty raw spot on my side. Both holsters are carried in the 3 to 3:30 position.

Plus 1 on the stealthgear. I've had a high noon. Uncomfortable as hell. N82 tactical professional. Extremely comfortable, but bulky and didn't like the bulge due to the clip on top of the plastic holster. Plus the draw was a little odd with the twist and release, not bad, but if I were in a panic situation I could see myself fumbling.
You won't feel the backing a of the screws on the stealthgear. I wish I discovered this holster before the other 2 I bought. At least I was only up to 2 though lol. I believe my search is now over.

My favorite holster after trying several high end ones is the High Noon Topless. Its an OWB holster but conceals very well. Very comfortable and well made. They have 22% off until Sept 28 too. Never seen them on sale before. I have a crossbreed too but feel it's too much holster for such a small gun. Crossbreed is nice for my Glock 19 size gun, but I use the High Noon Topless for the Glock 19 also most of the time. Just like how comfortable the OWB belt holsters are.

Do you have it for the shield or another gun? I was thinking that I could put a little moleskin on the screws if I did end up feeling it. I definitely would rather get something good from the start then go through multiple ones first.

Thanks for the link, I'll check those out. I think all the ones I have looked at have a 14 or 30 day return period. I like the hidden hybrid that can be both IWB/OWB especially with winter coming and wearing heavier clothes/jackets.

One thing I have noticed that can vary greatly in the hybrid holsters, is the backing. I tend to sweat a lot, especially in the hot humid climate of Houston.

Check the backing on the StealthGearUSA

The VentCore® Platform: [backing]

The SGUSA VentCore® platform that you'll find on all of our concealment holsters is constructed of 100% synthetic, High-tech non moisture-absorbing materials (as opposed to a non-breathable leather backing), and is completely vented for breathability and comfort. VentCore® is what largely sets us apart from the others.

Here is what's inside the VentCore® platform:

  • The platform backing is lined with tri-dimensional polyester VentMesh (also used in high-end backpacking and mountaineering equipment) to wick moisture away from the body.
  • Closed cell foam, strategically-positioned custom to each gun model, minimizes that uncomfortable weapon "bulge" by more evenly distributing pressure across the holster platform.
  • A polyester-reinforced flexible support platform is used as a stiffener or armature to which all padding and mesh are attached. This is the "heart" of the platform.
  • 100% hard nylon RhinoMesh facing is used where the weapon contacts the platform. This mesh has a twist in the warp yarn for extreme strength and abrasion resistance, but still allows maximum breathability. We have tested the durability of this facing mesh by holstering and un-holstering a gun in a test holster the equivalent of once per day for 30 years with NO visible wear.
  • Ventilation: All closed-cell foam padding and the armature positioned between the top and bottom meshes of the VentCore® platform contain laser-cut diamond-shaped ports. These vent ports give the holster its breathability. In our field-testing, we found that on a fully-vented platform, the perspiration moisture escaping away from the body passed through the ports and condensed on the metal slide of the weapon. To solve this problem, and to protect the weapon from corrosion, a non-vented area is designed into each platform underneath the slide of your firearm to protect the weapon from condensation moisture. We call this the "integrated moisture shield" and it is built into each holster, and custom to each handgun slide or barrel.
  • and more

I'm just about there also with StealthGearUSA for M&P Shield.

At $79 (for the model for Shield with a laser), it is about $10 higher than other comparables. Seems like a very small price to pay for what will likely be a lifetime purchase for me. No time to be cheap on a holster given what I spend weekly on range rounds.

That's the appendix carry, IWB is $99. According to their site, they will have OWB available next month. I'm wondering if the Kydex would be able to be swapped between if you wanted to get both. I'm going to call and find out.
