Holster ID & "Break in" or stretch

I recently purchased a very nice S&W holster from a member to use with my model 60. It is marked "B02" and a separate stamp of "72". Any idea what these indicate?

The gun fits the scabbard but it is hard to snap (must stretch the strap), especially when on a belt. I threaded the belt first and then put the revolver in a plastic bag and put it in the holster. It is snapped now, I will leave for a day or two and see if it helps. Would it help to put some neatsfoot oil on the strap? Other ideas?

B02 72 was made to fit 2" concealed-hammer Centennial and Bodyguard type J-frames, that's why the strap is tight over your exposed hammer. You can stretch the leather but I wouldn't count on it lasting very long before breaking. You'd probably be better off trading for the proper holster.

Roger, if you do a search here on the forums, there is a thread with scanned pages from S&W holster catalogs. You can look up the number codes with these.
