I have a guy from my church offering to make me a custom holster. I haven't seen his work but people I know have and they say it's good quality at a reasonable price.

Here's my question he says he needs MY gun to use as a holster mold what is all that wet leather wrapped around my gun going to do to my gun?

FWIW the question pretty much became moot after I discussed it with my wife.

We decided that the potential savings over just buying a Kramer holster isn't enough to justify the hassle. I sent the guy an email and just kind of left it open ended but we're going with the Kramer

Be careful. I sent a gun to a Nigerian holster maker who said the same thing. It's been 6 months and no holster. I'm also out the return shipping charges I wired him via Western Union. I'm about ready to give up on the holster and ask him to send my gun back.

Please be patient with him. He has had to stop working on your holster while he gathers my lottery winnings. Once I wire him his fees and he ships my money, he will return to your holster.

It won't hurt it at all. I've used a 70 series Colt Gold Cup National Match as a mold to make at least a hundred holsters, and it still looks like new. I don't put plastic on it. I simply wipe it off when I'm done.

I do the same exact thing. No plastic wrap (althought it does not hurt anything; it is just unnecessary) and just wipe the gun down afterwards. Doesn't hurt a thing.

As I said I talked about it with my wife and we decided that the savings (50 bucks) wasn't worth the hassle of giving up the gun (under the new Colorado laws that would have involved a background check both ways) waiting on the holster, picking it up and hoping it was to our satisfaction. Plus I don't like doing business in the church because I don't want the strained relationship if something goes wrong.

wise decision. i try not to work for friends unless i know they understand the process, and how expensive i can become, in building their dreams.
a quick way to end a friendship is to involve money.

i think you can get a plastic "buck" in the shape of your pistol, not sure what they cost but maybe an option?

Several guys here on the forum can make holsters for that gun without needing your pistol.

Nothing personal but I've decided to go with a known company (Kramer) with a proven track record of quality and customer service
