I'd like to carry a N frame revolver comfortably in a leather holster, belt carry or shoulder rig.
If it's worked for you I'd like to hear about it.

When you say a belt holster, do you mean IWB or OWB?

If you mean the former, I actually tote mine (3" 29-3, 4" 629-4 MG, and 4" 29-2) in a kydex Comp-Tac CTAC.

For OWB I use a K&D Holsters Eagle Defender for my 3". I am thinking of ordering a Sourdough Pancake from Simply Rugged Holsters for my 4 inchers.

GF, There's a lot of answers to your question and they depend on the reason why you are going to carry the gun in a holster. I use both a full flap Idaho Leather Co, leather belt holster or an Uncle Mike's fabric shoulder rig for my 5" Model 29-2, when I am hunting, as it protects the gun from weather, brush, branches, rain, etc. If I'm just out plinking or hiking, any good belt holster, with strap, does the job. For concealed carry,I have a Jon Jovino 25-2 conversion to round butt 2" and I use a Bianchi clip on inside the pants style, left hand model, centered in the rear, for quick right hand access.

I carried a M28-2 4 inch comfortably in a Roy Baker Pancake. From what I can see the Simply Rugged offering is pretty close.

I guess I should narrow it down a bit. I have a "field" holster for carry in the woods, or on the range.
Here it is with my Mod 28-2...

But it doesn't hold the gun in close to my belt/body.
I'd like to try a concealed holster, that's why I mentioned a shoulder holster in the OP.
Wyatt & opoefc, you carry an N frame IWB !?!
I don't think I have enough room for me and a N frame cylinder in there.
A pancake holster does come to mind as does a high ride belt holster.
Pictures?

Hey GF, thanks again for the kind gesture with the moon clips. If you haven't tried, or looked at a Bianchi 5BHL give one a try. They carry the gun about centrally located over the belt and I really like mine. They give you a choice of belt slots for different sized belts as well.

For concealed carry of a big gun, I like EPS Street Combat.

Yes sir. Gotta get used to buying trousers one size up. I wear 34 and buy 36. I can easily carry an N frame IWB with a Beltman Belt and a CTAC.

My OWB is a Eagle Defender by K&D Holsters:

Kevin Manley (K&D Holsters) now makes a dual IWB/OWB pancake holster called the Thunderbird Defender and that might be worth a look. Both it and the Sourdough Pancake from Simply Rugged Holsters are convertible from IWB to OWB.

Comp-Tac CTAC IWB (imagine it molded for a 4" N frame). This holster can have the shirt tucked in over the gun:

I too recommend the EPS Street Combat which you can have made as fancy as you want.
In fact, I'll sell you my 4" black basket weave for $60 and I'll order me a fancier one?

Any of the good leather pancake style (front & rear slot)holsters will carry the 4N well. Need a good 1 1/2 - 1 3/4" belt also. Online viewing will give you lots of options.

I like my Kramer belt scabbard for my tapered barrel 4" N frames. It has a a reinforced mouth, covered trigger guard, and is comfortable.
