Home defense-don't fight if you don't have to

Nope,I carry it all by it's lonesome. Here in Texas it's warm/hot a good part of the year so shorts and t-shirts are the uniform of the day with little cloth available for consealment. My pocket is a best option.

Oh, I understand Texas weather...I'm out in west Texas...

Don't underestimate the 22lr.It's not something that should be dismissed as a carry piece as opposed to a .25 or .32 that may not make it through a winter jacket.

Sure, I was just curious. I've thought about doing it myself, but have never thought it would really be that good for self defense...maybe against critters. I guess I would need to research it more.

Thanks for the reply!

What do they say....the best defense is a good offense.

You may quickly need to become the aggressor rather than taking a defensive role if your situation lacks any cover or escape route

When things go down without a lot of thinking time and you react from instinct and training you be somewhat better off than when a few added seconds allow for strong palpitations, adrenaline rush, sweating, heavy breathing, weak knees etc to kick in.

Would a Panic Room be a better solution for some of you instead of having to use deadly physical force to survive.

Use of Deadly Force Law & Legal Definition

My plan is, I am going to the kitchen drawer, and I am grabbing one of my butcher knives.
I have some 8 inch knives wrapped and taped in cardboard, so that I can tuck one into my waistband.
Then I am going to get my .45, and then I am going to fight like my life depended on it.
It is going to be bloody, and one of us is probably going to die: me or the burglar.

Not fighting isn't even an option, it is off my list;not fighting aids my attacker, in a passive way. And fighting energetically limits the attackers opportunities.

I've heard they sell knives designed for self defense. They usually fold up for easy carrying, or come with something called a "sheath . . . "

It all depends upon the situation

Sure, if it's right there and you have time.

Home invasions seem to be all the rage right now. I would advise anyone who doesn't believe they're capable of shooting an intruder to consider beefing up their doors/windows. This could buy extra time to exit, stage left.

I assume most here know this but....
If someone is forcing entry into your home
knowing that it is occupied he is NOT after your
stinkin TV or computer.

The do nothing wait in the bedroom is an option.
Not mine, but an option.
What if the thug decides to set the place on fire while
your waiting on the PO-PO.?

In short, the time is coming when police response time
will be hours instead of a few minutes.
Time comes when you gotta "cowboy up".

Many will say I'm safe and he is just taking/stealing "stuff".
Maybe....but it is MY stuff by God.
Glad I live in Texas.

As stated...Have a plan.
Plus the cajones to use it.

I have a lot of respect for the guys at TR but don't agree with him even @ 50%

As much as I like to "play by the rules" my wife and I are in our mid 60s.
I can no longer engage in fisticuffs so I have a GI 1911 cocked and locked with 8 rounds of 230 gr. hardball on the nightstand and my 29-3 loaded with 245 gr. hollow points under my side of the bed. IF some scumbag gets past our two dogs into our bedroom at 2:00 AM he's a dead man. I shoot weekly, aim big so I miss small and would rather be judged by twelve than carried by six.

Fire or no fire.... if he does not have a ballistic vest on... oh heck, even if he, she, they have one, their backside is mine. No one will force their way into my home and be able to brag about it... period. I will expend all my ordnance and life force to see to it.
There is no question in my mind and no politically correct answer to the question at hand.... I w i l l use all the force at my disposal to eliminate the vermin that breach my home and threaten my family and myself.
LEO's, ambulance.. layers.. courts be hanged. They are all after the fact issues to be addressed with later.

An old three legged dog behind a six foot fence and four steps to the doors, that oughta be test enough for anyone confused about the address.
Beyond that, the fat's in the fire. I can make bail and get out of jail, but a pine box is a different story.

I'd say the most important thing is to know your state laws on self defense and their application.

I live in Texas and we have the Castle Doctrine and it applies to where ever you legally are, not just you home and house. You maybe picking your nose on a street corner and you have the legal right to defend yourself with deadly force is the situation warrants.

But that aside, I always tell folks who ask to know the legal and moral aspects of their use of Force and Deadly Force will be in their state.

Sad thing is, in the United States of America there are states that I don't set foot in because of their laws of Self Defense.

Prepare for the worst and hope for the best.

Rule 303

With all due respect to the OP and instructor in the vid....

Those that cross my threshold without invitation or
lawful cause, get what they deserve and nothing less.

I don't prescribe to 'safe-room' doctrine....I have the 'safe-house' deal going on.

.
Fair enough. Personally, if I'm awaken from a sound sleep, I'm not inclined to sweep my house.

I know....But I've done it for others in the middle of the nite...

I just don't like being woke up for no good reason.

My house is not like clearing a building or a dope house with a team.

I'm purty sneaky around my digs... ;)

As Mr. Smith touched on in that video, 'It depends on your personal level of experience and or training.'

Again I say"make no statements to the police or press that is not through an attorney.Don't be your own worst enemy.

I can't stress this enough.

If you are the only witness keep your mouth shut even if you think you are 100% in the right according to your local laws.

A word about buck shot from personal experience. It is very possible that it may not penetrate a heavy leather winter coat or cause enough damage to put an assailant down and put him/her in a non retaliatory position.

Keep your mouth shut is a very smart thing to do, the state is not on your side, don't learn that the hard way.
I read the story, and it doesn't bother me that she shot him as he was presumably "running away". That may sound cold and callous, but he never should have been there.
I hope that she gets someone like me on her jury, I hope she gets exonerated.
