home defense rounds for shield 9mm

Any name brand 124gr HP bullet that is accurate in your Shield is the best choice. (or what you can find) Almost everything made these days is of very high quality and will do what it was made to do...

I'm a little old skool and I'm carrying Winchester Silvertips but if I were to by newer SD ammo it would be 124gr Speer Gold Dot ammo.

This question is a common one among different calibers. Typically, you will get somewhere in the area of 6-8 recommended JHP loads that will fall in the middle of available bullet weights. The important point here is that whatever load you choose must function 100% in your gun, and be accurate and controllable for you.

Fortunately, the Great Ammo Shortage seems to be waning, and defense loads in most calibers are back on the shelves; your gun will probably like most if not all of them. Choose one and practice with it regularly and you should be good to go. Hope this is helpful.

9mm for Shield

I don't own a Shield but own Kahr's and a (gasp!) Ruger SR9c. I carry the Federal HST 147 grain myself but would not be averse to the 124 grain HST either in a small 9mm.

The 124gr is great in a 4" or longer barrel with the added fps................

In a short 3" barrel you might look at the Federal 147 HST load.
It will expand to .60" diameter, beating out most of the 124grs.

I like Winchester Ranger, Federal HST, Buffalo Bore (if you like hotter rounds), Black Hills, Barnes, Wilson Combat... they are all good and I would trust my life on them.

Btw, Black Hills, Buffalo Bore and Wilson Combat are using Barnes bullets as well.
