Home Made Holsters

Both of your holsters are beautiful. I especially like the bear paw. The dye job adds character. Keep up the great work.........

Those are very nice, you made them the way you wanted! I admire your art....keep up the good work!!

Custom Hand crafted leather.

Excellent work. I don't know if it's art or craftsmanship - probably some of both but you have a lot of us admiring your work. Keep it up.;)

bamabiker....those are awesome, that's what I'm talking about. Seeing stuff like that is what inspires others to give it a try. I'm a LONG way off from any floral carving and that 1911 holster of yours is beautiful!
Thanks for putting those pics up.

macbullet, you're doing great and you will get better I'm sure. I've been making holsters for about 20 years, but I'd never tooled any of them. Last spring I decided I wanted to give it a try. I learned that my local Tandy gave free lessons. So I went a took a few, they also had a holster making class, that involved a fee, and the instructor was excellent, but made them much differently than I do, I learned a lot. So you might check into that, even if you don't want to tool, you can learn a lot about stamping the geometric patterns and some tips for dying. I like the look of yours, there are some pre-dye conditioners that will help even out the color. Of course the best method is a vat dye but not many of use can affort a vat of dye. Here's a few of my latest projects, and you always see the tiny defects where others will not notice. Keep up the good work. CH

I tried a bit of tooling, but I've yet to do any I'm satisfied with.

I like the basketweave pattern.

This IWB pattern worked out pretty well. I'll warn you, it gets addictive.

I can see where it would indeed get addictive. I guess I will have to give this hobby a try.

And the news media sez American ingenuity and craftsmanship are a thing of the past! HAHAHAHAHA:D!!

Nice work guys, keep it up!

You guys are killing me. I used to be happy with my store bought leather

Looks like we have a whole new class of hide benders knockin' on the door.

Good work guys.

What leather & finish?

Hello Mac - your holsters look great. I've been accumulating tools to make holsters over the last few years and the posts on this thread have really peaked my interest. Could you tell me what stain and finish you use on the holsters pictured in the first post? Thanks,

Rick

Macbullet,
Remember we are always more critical of our own work than others are. I happen to think that both of your holsters look great, in fact I would proudly use either of them. Keep up the good work.

Keep 'em coming, they all look great and give new ideas to persue.
h1, the Bear Track holster was done with Tandy Canyon Tan dye on veg tanned cowhide and the second holster is Tandy Range Tan on veg tanned horsehide. The finish is Tandy's Satin Shene. Picked up a new color today, Tandy Desert Tan that looks more like the color I've been wanting to get, we'll see. Thanks again everyone.

All you holster makers are to blame.....you created a monster and now I've created a monstrosicty. I have a couple holsters for my 500 S&W, a DeSantis and one from Pistol Packaging and they both work very well but I was thinking a cross draw would work better for me when I hunt bears in September sitting in an Ameristep blind. I tried to find the balance point and keep the bulk of the weight centered and came up with this crossdraw design. I like the color but on this big of a rig I may change it to something a little darker.

That is a great holster. I can see improvement in each one you make

Thanks Iggy, hopefully I can come up with one of those Bar-B-Que holsters someday. I'm having too much fun doing this. Here's another one I finished today for a 3" Model 66.

Hey guys, great leather work! So I was wondering if any of you would make a holster for me and ship it out to California? I'm having a hard time finding a holster for my 686+ Pro Series and would like to try and avoid spending $200 + on one because they have to make it custom. I'd be willing to pay you well, so even if it was $100-$150 that's be cool. I'm looking for a black leather belt holster, right side and with a retention strap. It's a 5" wedge cut bbl. Let me know thanks guys
