I know it's not for everyone but I am a Sushi fanatic! My wife is not a big fan, but my friends wife is really into it as well. Tonight we went to her house for dinner along with 10 other people and she made Sushi at home while we watched - just like in a Sushi restaurant. I BBQ'd the Negamaki while she was making the Sushi rolls and everything was absolutely wonderful. Raw Oysters in black bean sauce and of course edamame too. I also made one of my world class cheesecakes for desert- lol. I can do only three things in the kitchen - but I do them well. I make great omelets, killer Nacho's and a pretty darn good cheesecake. That's it!

Here are a few pic's of tonights fare. Oh - she also had steak, chicken and salmon for the non Sushi people.

My father worked with a man who had emigrated here with his family from Japan. Every time they worked together he would tell my father that he had to come over for a home cooked Japanese meal. Finally one day, their schedules lined up and my father arrived at their house prepared to experience new cuisine. The meal was fried chicken, mashed potatoes and green beans. My father said, "I thought you siad a home cooked Japanese meal?" His host pointed at his wife and said, "She look Scandanavian to you?":D:D:D

That looks DEEE-LISCIOUS! Must have taken some time to prepare.

Yes - the only mistake she made was not prepping ahead of time. It takes quite a while to shuck 4 dozen oysters and roll 18 different kind of rolls. I believe she knows that now and next time I will go over earlier and help her.

Thanks! Yea, my cheesecake is what I (and others) deem to be about the best around - at least to us. That of course is subjective and by no means do I want to sound conceded - that is just what I have been told. I always have people asking me to make it for a party or BBQ. Personally I like a plain cheesecake and if people want to add fresh strawberries, blueberries, whipped cream, etc. I will provide that as well, but don't like mixing them together as a cake.

One of the worlds wonders I have always had is WHY "The Cheesecake Factory" makes such lousy cheesecake! LOL!! IMHO, it's nothing more than poor to mediocre and since that is their name, one would think it would be spectacular - NOT!

Wow, that looks very tasty!

I really enjoy sushi and sashimi, but the wife... not so much. It is a treat.

Best cheesecake in America is made in a small bakery in the Riverdale section of the Bronx. I've tried Juniors and the rest, they are also rans.
You rang the doorbell and someone will come let you in. Looks like they now have eat in.

Some of the finest restaurants in NYC get their cakes from S&S

BITD they had one cake, plain, no fruit toppings, but they expanded offerings in the 90's.

Sorry for the drift.

If God had wanted us to eat raw fish; he wouldn't have given us fire!!!!!!

:)

Well, while this may seem odd, I HATE cooked fish and I will not even eat it! It smells awful to me and just tastes too "fishy", lol! Raw Sushi grade fish has no oder, tastes great and if prepared properly by a freezing process, poses no health hazard at all. After eating Sushi for almost 35 years I have never ever gotten sick.

A few times my friends have made fish for dinner and I refuse to eat it - they look at me like I am crazy. They say, "but we've seen you eat Sushi many times". Then I have to politely explain.

About the most cooked fish I will eat is Sesame Seared Tuna. Not really cooked, just seared on the outside crust. The rest is raw.

I totally agree.
I thought it was just my poor, pedestrian upbringing that didn't allow me to appreciate the 'finer experience' and their Cheesecake.

I will eat sushi (carefully) but it took decades to try after experiencing unfortunate repercussions after eating a shiner on top of a multitude of Blue Ribbon beers.

did you grill it outside over charcoal, or use a non-stick skillet on the stove?

Lundy's in Sheepshead Bay Brooklyn, had pretty good cheesecake.
Don't know if they made it or not.
Their fish was cooked. :D
After a sail, as our sloop was at anchor there, it was our go to place for dinner, and always took home a couple of quarts of New England clam chowder.
The Mrs is a Sheepshead Bay girl.
Met her on a Ferry Boat.
Six degrees or lightly snowing and we were
on the water in CoalTrain.

My Mom made great Italian cheesecake.
We make banana bread with lotsa Ricotta.
Eaten cold.
