Home Remedies

Temperature or fever. Put little glass bowls on your back and heat them till they create a suction on your skin. Draws out the temperature.

Chest congestion. Draw a grid on your chest with zelyonka (brilliant green) (you'll have to Google that one). Also good on cuts

Years ago, my mother picked up a stray dog where we used to live out in the country. She thought it was a poodle, but it turned out the dog had mange. She applied used motor oil to it, and in a little while, the mange was gone. Turned out to be a great dog, and stayed around for many more years.

My wife and I are both nurses. Our favorite cures for a bleeding wound (NOT the deep, or arterial types) that won't stop are:

1. apply a clean cotton ball to the wound, and then apply direct pressure with your hand. Don't lift the cotton ball to peek, but after 5 minutes or so, the wound should have clotted. (This is the wife's treatment)

2. apply a clean, damp tea bag (no, the flavor doesn't matter) directly to the wound, cover with a clean dressing (a clean handkerchief of dish towel works well), and apply direct pressure. After about 5 minutes, the wound should have clotted. (This one is my favorite - it also works well for bleeding wounds in the mouth - like when a tooth is removed either intentionally, or not.)

If either treatment does not work, it's time to apply ice to the wound and head to the hospital, or call 9-1-1 and let trained medical staff tend to it.

Regards,

Dave

when i would get a bad cut, my grandfather would try to put salt on it, said it would heal it quicker.. I think he was able to do that ONE time... every other time he suggested it, my cut didn't seem so bad to me and it felt better REAL quick :)

Duct tape on skin tags, got to reapply if it gets loose and keep it on for about 2 weeks and the skin tag will fall off. I guarantee it works.

Cut a raw potato in half and put them on the soles of a child's feet to lower a fever.

To get rid of a ganglion cyst hit the bump with a heavy bible. Can't say it works but does make a wrist sore.

Neighbor's dog making caca deposits in your yard"

Prepare a poultice of sauerkraut, dry raspberry Jell-O (not the sugar-free kind), buttermilk and 3-In-1 oil. Catch the dog and apply the poultice to his belly and pads.

You'll never see him again, unless he's a Jack Russell.

Have you ever had an attack of vertigo? It can be pretty bad.

Here is a method devised by Carol Foster, MD to cure or at least greatly reduce the effects of vertigo attacks. It can be done at home by yourself.

Update: Synchronicity

We have something here on the barrier islands called 'root' medicine, which is a variation on voodoo and people still believe in it and use it. In fact, my psychiatrist kept a woman from dying by giving her a root cure. No other doctor could do anything with her. After he did his incantations sitting on the rug with the dark glasses he gave her some pyridium pills and told her that when her pee turned orange she would be cured. It worked. If you want to curse someone you get a root doctor to 'chew the root' on them. Just make sure that you do it before they 'chew the root' on YOU first.

PS There was a sheriff in the next county that was famous for dealing with islanders by using root medicine as part of his law enforcement toolbox. He even wrote a book about it. Later he wrote another book that made me think that he actually believed and practiced it.

I see they are planning a TV series based on Ed McTeer called 'Coffin Point'. Funny weren't we just talking about that? That's a really interesting concept and I hope they do it justice.

Dentists will find it never failing in separating positive plaster casts from the negative.

And finally:
FOR POULTRYMEN, RANCHMEN AND FARMERS:
"STOGEROL" is invaluable to poultrymen in foot sickness, poultry diphtheria and pink eye. Beneficial results are obtained by daubing feet, eyes or throat with "Stogerol"
Ranchmen and Farmers will find it effective in combating foot and mouth disease, by simply applying "Stogerol" freely to infected parts. Also very effective in treating udder and other inflammatory disorders of livestock.

This came out of a pre-war copy of the STOGER Catalog. There are even more claims of how great it was…. (And all before Billy May……)

They told my wife at the Post Office.....

Some of them used 'Bag Balm' for their hands. It was originally made to soothe cow udders after milking but it works great on people too.

I can guess the the 'Udder Butter' product is a new invention.

Remember getting a pigsty on my eyes as a kid. Caused by rubbing my eyes with dirty hands.. My mother would put warm tea bags on my eyes to reduce the swelling....

Having dairy animals, we are never out of Bag Balm. The newer udder balms are weak sisters in comparison. I'd guess more Bag Balm goes on the people around here than the dairy animals. Great stuff. Growing up my mother put it on almost any sort of ding the kids came in with.
