Hoppes Bore Snake

Saturate the Snake

put the Bore Snake in a plastic bag for storage AFTER you thoroughly saturate it with Hoppes Solution .... it will be easy to use every time thereafter

I've seen more .22 barrels over the years that have been ruined by such neglect than I have seen in good condition. To each his own firearms abuse. :)

Spiders and dirt daubers seem to be the top bore killers in these parts. Apparently, spider poop is quite corrosive. :(

Do you saturate the entire length or just the head?

I wet the portion between the end of the leader and the brushes with CLP and leave the aft portion dry except for a little CLP on the tail loop.

I store mine in empty pill bottles. See post number 55.

Now that's an interesting little tidbit! I wasn't aware that spiders pooped. :)

Little white dots. sort of micro bird poop.

BTW, the deer hunting AR gets a bore snake run through it's barrel quite regularly, whether it's been shot or not, even with the chrome bore. Mostly to ensure nothing got inside during the previous hunt. Fortunately, it puts the first round on zero, fouled bore or not. Best deer rifle I've ever had. And that with 55gr Sierra Gamekings.

all of my rifles/SG's have an improvised rubber cap on the end of them to prevent any foreign bodies entering the barrel. i either use one of the "finger cots" the rubber condoms that go over your finger to count paper, we use them by the 100's at work, different sizes. or if i don't have any of those, i cut the finger off a rubber surgical glove, thumb fits SG's perfect, little finger fits AR's w/o FH's and the thumb also fits AR's with FH's. while hunting, one rifle is on the dual front gun holder on the ATV and the SG is in the one behind it. i always have a barrel cap on the end to prevent sand getting into the barrel. never had anything get into mine. just a DIY FYI.

I had the same problem when I first used it. You have to have a lubricant on half of it. I use CLP. Cleaner, Lubricant, Protectant. I spray half of the Bore Snake. I leave the last half that goes thru dry to soak up the excess. 3 to 4 time should do it. If you can see down your barrel, look thru it when your done. It's spotless. You could eat off it. Hope this helps. Doing it dry, you'll never get it thru. I know from experience. Lol.

Actually, putting CLP on that much of the BS is overkill. Putting it on the "head" (that portion preceding the brushes) is more than enough for 99 percent of barrel cleaning, especially on a .22 LR.

If more makes you happy ... :)
