HOPPE'S SOLVENT RINGS THE BELL ONCE AGAIN

I have used Hoppes Benchrest 9 as well as Shooter's Choice and Sweet's 7.62. I cannot say that any of these is better with GSR, carbon, or lead removal, but they are better than Hoppes No 9 when it comes to copper removal. Sweet's 7.62 is really good at copper removal due to its high ammonia content, but do not leave it sitting in the bore as ammonia is hygroscopic and can pit carbon steel and even damage a chrome lined bore.

I use original Hoppe's # 9. I love the smell of it. I bought a full case of it, and have most of it left. Nothing beats original Hoppes.

Hoppe's #9 is pretty much worthless for copper removal. Sweet's works, but there are newer, better products that won't do a barrel harm if you leave them in the bore too long. Montana Extreme Copper Killer works well but my favorite is Wipe Out/ Patch Out with the Accelerator. It works faster than all the others I've tried. Other copper removers work, but they work slowly.

Hoppe's Master Race checking in!👍🏻Use ONLY Hoppe's for 40+yrs of cleaning, simply THE BEST for everything, 'nuff said!😏

I bought a bottle of M-pro 7 and it didn't work very well at all. I fell for some hype saying it was great stuff but I should have stayed with hopps's, which I ended up doing anyway. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Hoppe's #9 is a perfect solvent for everything but copper removal. I'm pretty sure it will remove minor carbon fouling but I have not verified this with a borescope. This thread has drifted a lot and I'm one of the contributors to the drift, but I think some good points have come out of this.

The only thing I've ever used is Hoppe's #9 and CLP.
It just works! Although I've never liked the smell!

I'm a huge G96 fan. Their product line is amazing and has no gaps.
I use their CLP exclusively. Smells good and cleans great . For copper removal I use something like Sweets or Montana X-Treme Copper Killer .

I've used Hoppe's No.9 for my entire shooting life. As many have mentioned, it does a great job on about everything but copper, and there are other products for that. I just wanted to pass on a tip regarding bore cleaning. I now take my cleaning stuff to the range. When I finish with a particular rifle, I'll swab to bore while the barrel is still heated up from shooting. I'll wipe off any excess and case it for the trip home. After I get home, I'll finish the cleaning. It gives the benefit of the solvent working on a warm barrel, which I think speeds up the solvent cutting the crud. Also, less smell when get home, so the wife is happier.

My wife cannot stand the odor of Hoppes solvents. I think it smells great, she leaves the room.

I used it for decades, and it works great but I started having issues with its toxicity. I switched to a non-toxic product. It works for me.

I never cared for CLP as a "C". Great for the "L" and the "P".

Long ago, exhausted from a 300 mile round trip and 4 long range matches in one hot afternoon I was faced with trying to clean my rifle. After 104 rounds, the bore was well coppered. I can't recall if I did the 20 passes with Hoppes & brush or just saturated the bore with a patch and went to bed.

The next morning, I was dreading the scrubbing I was about to do. Lo and behold, there was no copper in the bore! Beat the dickens out of what I'd been doing before and yes, that include using Sweets.

In addition to cologne and air freshener…

The problem with Hopes #9 and 3 in 1 oil is the fragrance attracts women.
I shower after cleaning my guns and before going out. It can be kinda embarrassing.
