So I am now taking the plunge and attempting my own action clean up and when I was dissembling my 617 the first thing that I noticed were these. I haven't stoned or touched the hand except for disassemble. I did attempt to touch up the hammer block. My question is:

- Should I replace the hand, possible the hammer block? the groove on the hand is pretty deep and don't think I can safely stone that much. You can also see some pretty rough edges on the face of the hammer block.

- should I then also replace the hammer block? there were some rough edges down low that may have caused the bad groove. Maybe an out of spec hammer block? All i did was stone the flat surfaces(sides) but you can see some pretty rough "beveling" along the slot.

This is my first action job and although I'm sure Ill make some mistakes, it is fun to learn to do it yourself. Not a defense gun anyways

*My garage decided to consume my sear spring so I have to purchase that anyways, might as well make it a package deal, or possible send photos to S/W and they may replace?

V/r,
Bucky

Even in the new revolvers, which this is from, hands are a fitted part. The width of the hand is critical. If you go polishing on the hand you will most likely have a revolver that will not carry up - in layman's language it will be out of time.

When I disassemble my revolvers I leave the hand attached to the trigger simply because it's a -itch to put the spring back.

I give the disassembled revolvers a week long kerosene bath every 6 months to a year depending on how much I shot it/them.

You can vacuum the garage floor for the lost part or attach a bunch of magnets to a mop.

I've retrieved some small parts from my bedroom rug using the magnets.

1. No, both look ok.

2. Buy Jerry Miculeks "Trigger Job" DVD. It will give you a good view of what to do and maybe more importantly, not do. It will save you more than the DVD costs.

There are a number of threads about 617s if you do a search.

take the hammer block, and throw it in the trash where it belongs.

Trust that you never ever have to use a gun with any "Safety Device" or part removed or altered.
You could be on the wrong end of litigation. AND ALMOST GUARANTEED TO LOSE!!!!!!
