I always advise people to use what they would on the street (the most powerful defensive load they shoot well). I believe that the best way to avoid overpenetration issues is with accurate gunfire and as few rounds in the air as possible.

I agree. I also think that a defendant might have a pretty good case for 'intent to maime', not to mention your future liability if that's all you did with the snake shot rounds.

At least in Ohio, the only reason to be shooting somebody is because they presented you with an immediate and credible fear of life and limb. If you're doing that to me, tiny shot isn't the answer. A 158gr. LSWC-HP (or two) to the chest is. If I don't reasonably believe that the threat you pose warrants that, I'm not going to shoot you with ANYTHING.

My choice for a "house" pistol has varied some over the years, has typically been either a S&W revolver in 38 or 357, or a 1911 in 45ACP, but recently I decided to go with the FN Five-seveN in 5.7x28. Very accurate and fairly potent, but not too penetrating and, thus, hopefully 'safer' in a house environment.

The better half prefers a M64 with a 3" tube spitting out 158gr SWC I cast. I think they are flying about 900fps or just over. She controls the recoil just fine. Hope that helps some. Stay safe. Later.
