How accurate can you be with a .22 snub 34 or 63?

Years ago, I rented a house that had a 100 yard range. One of my Marine Corps buddies came by to see me. We went out and did a little shooting. I had a Jennings .22 LR semi auto that I carried as a back-up laying on the bench.

I had a couple of gallon milk jugs out at 100 yards. My buddy Butch picked up the Jennings and proceeded to hit that jug 6 times, off hand. Of course, Butch had shot on a Navy/Marine pistol team for a number of years.

Yes.
A 2" snub nose 22 with adjustable sights would make a dandy range gun.
Absolutely.
You should be able to plink cans at 50 yards with it.
Mine's a 4".

I've never really thought of my 2" M34 as a target/range gun. There are better guns oit there if you're just shooting bullseyes. On the other hand, the M34 is a great field/plinking gun. I've killed lots of pop cans and pine cones with mine along with a fair number of cottontails. Knocked a few blue grouse out of pine trees too. Not to say you can't use it as a range gun, you certainly can and it's loads of fun. But if you can get it out to the field you'll really see what that little gun was made for.

I've carried several 2" bbl. J Frame S&W revolvers as back-up guns over the years (Models 36, 649, 940, 642, & 442) and I have found them to be remarkably accurate when qualifying. IMHO they are every bit as accurate as my longer barreled revolvers.

"Can hit a paper plate at 150 yards" with a 2" barrel,,, hummm

I can. A six inch paper plate, but I got my first J in 1978 and have been practicing regularly since then.

I am no Jerry Miculek but there is a you tube video of him hitting a gong at 100 yards, he was firing the J upside down and backwards.

I love taking my 34-1 2" to the range and putting the target out at 25 yards. It reminds me that sometimes I forget the basics and every once in a great while, I actually remember the basics of handgun shooting.

34 Snub Accuracy

I had a 2" that I regularly shot at a 6" steel spinner. Amazing. My partner said it looked like was shooting at the ground. Easy shot. Not much of a hit on the target as a 38 or 9mm but stupid accurate. Have a 17 now, you just can't miss

I have my Model 63 in my pocket as I type this. You never know when a target of opportunity will present itself!

2 1/2" groups at 25 yds is the best I've ever gotten.

My worthless dog will probably tell you that I sometimes miss those squirrels . . .

If Elmer Keith could shoot a m29/4" barreled 44 mag at 265 yds and Hickok 45 matched Elmer's shot. What's possible with a 2"/22 revolver?

No dog if worthless he's watching that squirrel so you can shoot the squirrel. The squirrel teases the dog. The dog distracts the squirrel it's his job.

My 4" M34 with factory targets is quite accurate. It has a good trigger. The 4" is so lightweight, I don't have any urge for a 2" M34.
I've never owned a 2" 22 (except a Jennings which yes was a backup to my back up.)

22 snubby accuracy

Closest to a 22 snubby I had was a Colt Cobra 22 with 3" barrel. I was able to hit a clay pigeon (just sitting on the ground of course, not in the air) just about all the time. Not sure of the distance, no longer have the record, but remember it as 50 feet. Of course I was early 20's and not 83 but and had really good eyesight and coordination. So, a short barrel 22 can be plenty accurate. That was offhand. Had a s&w model 51 22 magnum 3=1/2" barrel. over a rest had one 3" group at 100 yards. Don't remember trying again so probably a "fluke", but i'll always remember that. Short barrels can be pretty accurate.
Bill.

Man you guys are making me jealous, I've been looking for a 2" snub .22, can't find one here, not even at stupid prices.

That sounds like the voice of experience! You are absolutely correct, she chases them up a tree and they stare back at her. Then it's up to me to hit them.
She is anything BUT worthless and the two of us have a lot of fun in the woods together.

I have a 2" Kit Gun and have a blast just taking it in the woods and plinking cans or leaves floating on a pond etc. Not terribly satisfying to shoot targets in a range setting. That's better done with an M17. JMHO.

I had a model 36 years ago, handy to carry, but couldn't hit a barn door with it. Traded it for a Model 19, and I could easily put six in my hat at ten yards with that one. Kept it.

I LOVE my Smith K22's (my pre war and post war pre model number guns number around a dozen) and there are several early I and J frame .22s, but, slightly off topic, my best witnessed shot was an upper MI snowshoe hare at 40+ yards through the ear, off hand with my Ruger MK2 Gvt Tgt about 25 years ago. At the time, I was shooting A LOT. My buddy didn't think I had a chance. I never had a doubt. Lights out little bunny. Spit roasted over the fire.

If funds are available..... get two. :D
One for each hand......blast away...... and/or one for a
family member/buddy/date so you can race.
Sure fire fun wherever it's okay to shoot.

Back in the '80s I would take my Security Six Snub and consistently hit a small bush at 135 yards or so near Frazier Park California...... the K22 has a bit more arc to its path..... not a Winchester 52D..... but still in the bush.

Brick by brick the accuracy will get better. ;)

Have fun
Stay safe
