How Bad Have I Messed Up my MP45?

Good evening,

I was cleaning my new MP 45 this evening prior to taking it to the range for the first time. The "Take-Down" lever must've gotten turned when I was cleaning it and wasn't in the right position when I put the slide back on. In any event, it's locked up tighter than a drum at this point. I've included a photo.

Is there anything I can do myself to correct the problem?

Thanks - Bob

You should be able to work it loose. Try dropping any mag and working the slide back and forth by grabbing the frame and slide with your right hand and working the take down lever with the thumb of your left hand.

Thanks for your reply. I should've included a photo of the entire pistol but the magazine is out.

Applying moderate force, I can't get the slide to budge. I guess I'm a little afraid of marring the finish of the slide. I'm a little perplexed as to why I can't get the slide to move towards the muzzle thus allowing me to move the take-down lever.

OK, I have been able to duplicate your problem. The solution for me was to push down, kinda hard, on the take down lever. This enabled the slide to move and freed everything back up.

Hi

I did that to my MP40 and what worked for me was to push back on the slide and rotate the lever down at the same time. I placed it muzzle down on a mouse pad, pushed down slightly holding the grip with one hand and rotated the lever down with the other. Everything moved as it should and I locked the lever down, released the downward pressure & began the takedown process again. Hope you get it up & running soon.

Works for me when I've done it. I try to keep my thumb on the lever in the down position when re-assembling, but sometimes it slips.

Thanks so much everyone for your responses. The problem is now solved. In addition to your suggestions of applying pressure to the take-down lever while racking the slide back, I inserted an empty magazine as well. I don't know if it helped to insert the empty mag but it certainly seemed much more willing to move the slide back while rotating the take-down lever.

In any event, thanks again and I look forward to participating in your community.

Regards,

Bob
