I was at the OGCA today. I always go around the room twice to see everything. I did pick up a Safariland speedloader loading block I have been looking for. I passed on a nice 629-1 for $ 800.

I found a 66 no dash 2 1/2 inch for $ 425!!! But looked like someone had taken a dremel tool to it. The seller said he thought someone tried to polish it.

I asked the table raffling off guns for OGCA who to talk to about this gun. They sent me to a guy with a lot of perfect Colts for sale. He stated he would have to see it. The seller (good guy) allowed me to take it to him. Joe said that the only thing to be done was to have it engraved. It would still only be a shooter.

It broke my heart to let go of a no dash 66 2 1/2 inch gun for 425

All my guns are like new except my Python. It was carried for years. It is still in good shape. Any re-bluing would hurt its value. I do not like crappy looking guns.

How deep are the marks?...There some guys that can professionally polish it out to a bright finish, or scuff it down to a brushed finish.................................M*

As long as it was mechanically sound I would have been tempted. It would make a good carry gun - you wouldn't worry about it getting dinged up

Whoever did this tried to smooth it out over wide areas of the gun. OGCA has a lot of what I would consider experts. I believe the guy I was sent to knew his stuff. He thought that something had happened to the gun and the 'polishing' was meant to cover it up. I am still considering going back for it.

I have a well worn 66-1 in 2.5". It ain't pretty, but it is tight and shoots straight. Mine lives in a holster and spends a lot of time banging around the desert here. I would have been tempted enough to offer 4 bills for it.

Can't be as bad as the 5 Baton Rouge police dept model 10's I saw some years back at a local gun show. Nickle plating was gone in may places, rust where the plating was gone, loose as a goose regarding cylinder play and bores looked like the inside of a coal mine. Frank

You either want it or you don't.

It is what it is.

Whaddya want from me?

Please add your own clichés!

You did the right thing. Why buy something that will bring you no joy. Leave it for someone that will. A few years back I bought a pre 27 3 1/2" at the Orlando show for $450, definitely a steal even with the incorrect "speedloader cutout" target grips. As soon as I ran a brush down the bore, that telltale "slip" suggested a bulge. Further inspection confirmed. I could live with the 90% finish but the bulge, no. I listed it here with full disclosure and the member that got it was thrilled. I'm right there with ya. Joe

I would be tempted too. While it would bother me to look at it, I could keep it in my truck. . .out of sight, out of mind and ready to go if needed.
