How cold is it?

^^^ If you are dressed properly, there is never a need to be cold when you are outside.
True, back in my winter backpacking days, I'd wear layers starting with a wicking layer, an insulating layer or two and an outer shell. There were trips where my portable thermometer was pegged at 30 below.
"Braggin' cold", I usta call it.
I did sometimes wear gloves.

It's so cold the iguana's are falling from the trees!

About 9AM the 4th I smelt snow on the NNW wind.
Faint but there. No mistaking the scent.
Been quite a few years since I could whiff it on the wind, longer since I've felt it on my face.
I don't envy the rest of the country; brutal cold since Christmas.

We had the coldest Xmas week in over 100 years here.

Folks like to BMW (Complain, Whine, Moan) about the cold, but forget just how hot it gets in the southern latitudes over summer. I can deal with the cold a lot easier than the heat.

No so for my poor little dog. I got her last July at the local animal shelter. She is a 4 year old Corgi/terrier mix, and spent her life in Alabama, where she was abandoned. Long story how she got here. I'll be glad for her when it warms up. In the mean time I do my best to keep her as comfortable as possible:

Isn't amazing and sad how critters get into ones life.
Here's a tabby that showed up at my house last summer, he was emaciated and abandoned. I was sitting on my patio when he crossed my yard, I simply said what you doing there buddy and over he comes and up in my lap.

I started feeding and taking care of him, put a pet door into my shop so he would have a warm place to stay. Now he comes and goes as he pleases. I have no idea what his name was I just call he shop cat.

At -30 I'd have to fasten the top button on my flannel shirt.

It's so cold here that prisoners are begging for the electric chair.

We lost a local lake due to the cold, A late flock of geese landed last night just before dark. The Temp dropped really fast last night. This morning when the geese took off they took the lake with them.

That's a little tale told in the film Fried Green Tomatoes. Except I think it was ducks in the film. I always smile when I hear it.

I got up around noon and had a thin sheet of ice froze on my fountain. Been in the high 20's to low 30's past two nights. Only got up to 47 today, but were gonna be in the 60's - 70's starting tomorrow.

I've had my bike plugged into the battery tender for almost a week now! Kinda wish I'd moved farther south.
