I have a shooter quality "MOD 58X"? My S&W Standard Catalog dates AJH to 1985. I guessing someone had a rough night prior to his shift. I obviously have a S&W "MOD 581" but it is stamped "MOD 586". If S&W let nothing go to waste, this mis-stamp may not be uncommon. Is this just another S&W "nothing-to see-here-folks" item?

It is the first time I have seen this type of mis-stamp. I can see a future SWCA Symposium theme of "errors and oddities" and this one will fit right in :). Enjoy!

Maybe they installed the wrong stocks too. Unless they are numbered to the gun, they should be PC magnas. Still an interesting gun. Most likely shipped Nov/Dec 1985. 581’s are not that common. You have a rarity there, but no premium for mismarking. I suppose there are those out there that do collect such things though. It’s definitely another niche to collecting.
