How do I get a S&W M&P 15 Sport 811036 delivered to CO

I live in CO and due to the crazy laws passed a few years ago, the magazine capacity limit is limited to 15. I've been trying to buy an S&W M&P 15 Sport (811036) online and can't find a dealer that will remove or substitute the 30 round magazine in the box and ship the rest to my FFL. The rifle is completely legal in CO. All the dealers suggest I order the CA compliant model with the bullet button & no suppressor. No thanks; I don't want a downgrade. Does anyone know of a dealer that is more user friendly and will pull out the 30 round mag? I've tried Buds, Sportsmans Guide and a few others with no luck.

Or here's an idea S&W. Sell the 811036 model with a 10 or 15 round mag or no mag for those customers that live in communist states.

Model 811037 has a 10 round magazine and fixed stock, if your legally allowed swap the stock and there ya go!

No dealer in their right mind is going to send you that rifle with the magazine substituted or left out. Why not? Because if you, or someone who they sold one to, went and does something stupid, the news will be reporting that the dealer sold an illegal weapon to you.

Easier for a dealer to tell you to buy a compliant model, since all the features of that model are legal in your state.

Thanks for the responses and ideas everyone. Yeah, I'm talking flash suppressor, not silence, LOL. I didn't want buy a new rifle, then buy a new stock, flash suppressor and drill out the bullet button to replace it with a regular mag release. And the 811036 rifle itself is perfectly legal as outfitted in CO; in fact I already own one. I just want another one since I like it. And I have a ton of 30 round magazines in my possession that are legal to own and use with my existing rifle. Magazines that were owned prior to the law change in 2012 are ok to own and use, but not sell. So I stocked up. Any other ideas are appreciated, but I don't want to buy the 811037 CA model and modify it.

No it isn't... or Bud's would ship you one. It is all based on the SKU, and the SKU 811036 comes with a 30 round magazine that can no longer be shipped to Colorado.

What do your local dealers sell?

Once again you guess wrong. A flash hider is legal in CA. Here is a pic of the CA compliant M&P Sport (SKU# 811038):

You can plainly see the flash hider on the muzzle.

No drilling required. Have you ever removed a mag release button? It's the easiest part to replace.

Just depress the button and then spin the mag catch off. It just threads into the button. Bullet buttons work exactly the same way. Seriously, it will cost less than $5 and take less than a minute to replace.

The big box local dealers sell the CA model, 811037. So the SKU makes the gun illegal in CO, not the gun itself? Doesn't make a lot of sense, but what does regarding these laws. I have the same SKU on the box of the model I have. But thanks for that input, I don't want to get any dealer in hot water. I guess if I want an identical model to what I have, I need to locate a private seller and buy it from them thru my FFL without the magazine. I just saw a lightly used one on armslist.com in CO Springs, so I better get on it. Or better yet, maybe I should move to another state.

BTW, we worked hard along with RMGO to successfully recall three of the legislators that pushed new anti-gun laws in CO. The replacements have been working for repeal of the mag law. But with Hickenlooper still in office, that won't happen for a few years.

Tomato, tomahto. We all knew what he was talking about. He said dealers in CO told him CA version was legal in CO with bullet button and without the "hider." Just going with what OP said. Around here, it's called a flash suppressor. Probably legal in CA if you call it a hider. Highway Patrol in MO wanted a swimming pool at their new HQ/Training Center. Legislature wouldn't approve it. Asked for a training tank. Sailed through appropriations.

Thanks Rastoff. I didn't know about the 811038 model with the flash hider and adjustable stock. All I was seeing for CA was the 811037 model with a fixed stock and no flash hider. If the bullet button is as easy to change as you say, that looks like what I can get in CO. I read and heard that S&W was using red loctite to put in the bullet button and that it needed to be drilled out. So maybe it's not as hard as I was thinking. Will search for 811038. Thanks sir!

I find it hard to believe that you can't find what you are looking for, in Colorado. Where in Colorado do you live? There are tons of gun stores and big box stores, that I'm sure you could find what you want with a legal magazine or no magazine. In fact i saw a new sport in a LGS for sale with no magazine, a few weeks ago.

I read and heard that S&W was using red loctite to put in the bullet button and that it needed to be drilled out.

OK, I didn't know about the Loctite. Even if it is installed with that, a few minutes with a hair dryer and it will spin out.

And, let's say it does need to be drilled, still easy to do. Drill it and just replace both the button and mag catch. Can't cost more than $10 and will still take less than 10 minutes.

If it's held in place with red Loctite, it will take more than a few minutes with a hair dryer. The red must be heated up to almost 500 degrees before it will break loose.

New Jerseys compliant gun has no flash suppressor, 15 round mag limit but Smith puts a 10 round in the box, no bayonet lug. We don't have the bullet button, and the stock must be fixed in place.

I'm in Colorado.

When I got my M&P 15-22 they gave me a 10 round, and shipped the 25 round to my parents in a free state.

I bought a Sport 3 weeks ago, the 30 round mag was pop-riveted at the 15 round mark.

They're selling Sports right now with either a 'pinned' 30 rnd or will substitute a 10 rnd.

I noticed at the last gun show there were tons of 30rnd mags riveted at the 15 rnd point and labeled 15 rounds.

Were in CO are you located ?

Thanks Jimmy and everyone else. I found a dealer in the free state of Texas that was willing to remove the magazine and ship the rifle to my FFL in Westminster, CO. Removing the mag doesn't bother me; I have plenty on hand, but who doesn't want more! I don't know if I can name the dealer on this forum, but they are in Coppell, TX. Excellent price on the rifle in the configuration I wanted, so I bought two. I only called the big box stores in my local area and the prices were way too high compared to online, and they were all selling the bullet button models anyway. I guess I should have tried some smaller local dealers that may have been more flexible. I never heard about the pinned 30 rd mag, and no dealer I called mentioned it to me. Good to know for the future. So thanks again all. I learned a lot on this forum.
