I bought a Hogue handgrip for my 15-22. I cannot figure out hex wrench size to remove bolt. I've tried many SAE sizes, is it metric?

Thanks,

Lee

i used a large phillips head screwdriver

I tried this, but no luck. It looks like a ball-head wrench is needed, but I cannot really see really distinct flats of a hex head. My concern is that it was over-torqued, and the recess has been rounded out.

Give Smith a call...

Allen wrench. I've got dozens of em in a box so I don't know one from the other. But, the one that fits tight reads 4.75mm or .187 inches with calipers.

3/16" allen wrench is the right answer. i think the guy who said screwdriver didnt read the 15-22 part

Acetylene torch works for me. Burn them puppies off. If you find that to drastic I would follow the above advice. No farm animals were intended for use or misuse during this demonstration.:)

Turns out is is a Torx head. I went thru a bunch of bits I have for a bit driver, and one of them fit perfectly.

I appreciate the suggestions, this was driving me crazy. Nothing worse than a new accessory and no apparent way to get it assembled!

I guess the 15-22 hardware must be different depending on what day of the week it falls off the line. Blue Star... Red Star... No Star.... No wonder....

interesting...they must have run out of the allen heads that day at the factory!

I replaced the grip on my Bushmaster AR-15, after liking the new grip on my 15-22. It has the same Torx head style of bolt as the 15-22. The OEM plastic grips on the 15-22 and the Bushie are very similar, and I'd have to give the nod to the 15-22 version as looking like a better molded part. Sure seems like Smith and Wesson did a lot to make the 15-22 compatible with the AR where possible.
