How do you carry your J's?

El Paso Saddlery pocket holster -- My 442 -- I've used it for many years

I had one fellow order a back pocket holster. It's designed to give the outline of a wallet.
The first holster I made for myself was a thumb break owb.

Thanks for all the great replies and photos! I've decided to get a Desantis nemesis for the pocket and place an order for a Lobo enhanced pancake. Now I just have to wait for the darn thing to arrive......

Thanks again, and keep the photos coming. It's nice to be able to see all carry options.

Congrats on finding your 340PD. Especially finding one without the safety gizmo that is worthless. I got a slightly used 340PD, sent it to Gemini for some custom work and had the safety disabled. I've heard of problems with the safety malfunctioning and not being able to use the gun. I carry mine in the front pocket of my shorts in an Uncle Mike's #3. In cooler weather there are more options like my jacket or coat pocket.

In my shorts or pants on my hip using a ClipDraw. Best dang $20 I ever spent.

I'm finally the proud owner of a 340pd with no lock!! I have been hunting for one for a while now and located a LGS with a 340 in stock. Immediately, I drove down to look. Finally arrived and saw the 340 with No Lock!!! I bought it immediately for $899 + tax!! No canted barrel, NIB, and beautiful. Has a test fire date of 9-13-13, must be back in production! Came home, cleaned and oiled the gun, and fired about 120rds through it. Fired 100 158gr .38s and 20 135gr Speer .357s. This thing is a cannon! After all the comments about recoil on the intranet, I was expecting bruised and bloody hands. With .38s she is a pussycat, .357s go bang but no discomfort or pain. I don't think I'll be shooting 180gr out of her but the speers were not bad at all.

Anyway, it will be my new EDC and I would love some input on holsters. Pocket, IWB, or pancake? I would like to move away from IWB as that is what I have been doing with glock 23 and a crossbreed. At times it can be to much to lug around. I'm leaning towards pocket for summer and OWB for winter/fall. So if you guys could please post some pics and opinions on the best way to carry a J frame. Thanks!

I carry my J in a bag in my trunk to the range. We are not allowed to CCW in California ;^(

From Desantis to Mike

I started with a Desantis Nem in front pocket for my 638 w/ Crimson Trace, but went to a Mike #3 because the Desantis covered the entire trigger guard and hindered the ability to put my finger on the trigger before extracting the revolver from the holster and pocket. The Mike exposes about half the trigger making it much easier to get on the trigger.
Like another poster, I have my hand in my pocket on the gun in parking lots and so on, and want it ready to go - if I pull it there are generally 2 reasons: I am going to fire it, or put it on the night stand.
I have the factory trigger - DA is like 12 lbs - so I have considered no holster at all, but maybe not the best idea.

Personally, I'm not too fond of the pancake style holsters for the J frame snubby. It just seems to be a lot of leather to hold up a small gun. I try to keep my holsters simple and minimal. Just enough to hold the gun with molded retention and keep it close to my body. I did add a beaded rosette to one for an American Indian client.

free and independent

The wife and I won't leave the house without a loaded pistol in our pocket or purse. California has rendered it's own ability to govern "illegitimate" by infringing our right.

If the illegitimate establishment that would have us all unarmed in public has no regard for the rule of law, then I shall keep the rule of law in my pocket and loaded at all times.

I love it here in California and I loathe what they've done to the place. Everyone is unarmed in public! And it's a free for all in the absence of any deterrent. An armed society is a polite society, and in the effort to make us all subjects, the rude elements of society are emboldened.

You can report me if you want. Are they going to arrest ALL of us? It's been a long time in coming, and I'm not keeping quiet about it anymore. I am shunning the discretion that's kept me private and safe, to help America back to her free and independent roots.

I want to be self reliant, not a subject dependent on big government.

Are you a subject or a citizen?

In an Uncle Mike's # 36 fabric pocket holster (or a Blackhawk, which is the same thing) tucked into my strong side front pocket, with the clip over the pocket edge and covered with a t-shirt. Saw this carry at the range one day and never looked back...

I think that with a belt clip, those are probably IWB holsters. But I've seen someone use them clipped into a front pocket like you describe and it worked well for him. I might give it a try myself some time.
Ditto Lumpy's comment about a finger on the trigger while still inside the pocket.-- even with a heavy DA pull, that doesn't sound like the best idea you've ever had.

The 642 rides in either a Mika pocket holster, or some other brand that has a place for 1 Tuff strip (I don't recall who makes it). Or it can be found in a Renegade Cozy Partner ankle holster.

This is a Kydex holster I made that I carry mine in. It works great.
