I just got a new red ramp front sight from Brownells for my S&W 629 Classic DX. Just wondering if anyone can help me out and give me some advice on how to swap it out. I'm basically just swaping a stock black ramp front sight for the stock red ramp front, but don't really know how to do it.

Thanks for any and all assistance.

It appears there is a "pin" that goes through the sight.

Do I simply tap this pin out and then remove the sight. I suppose I will have to drill a small hole in the new sight as well.

Does this sound correct? Is it that simple, or am I better off bringing it to someone who has working knowledge of the firearms?

Thanks

I f you see there is a pin on the side of the site than you would need to tap it out to remove and reinstall, this is what I had to do on my 629, try not to have the pin come out all the way since it will be easier to reinstall it that way.

Must be a different sight than i had then. Mine was held in by spring tension. It had a pins through the ramp, but that only held the spring captive and was an engagment point to hold the front of the sight down.

Make sure what type of sight you have before you go driving any pins out.

If you have a "Classic" style interchangable blade there will be a hole (about 1/8" id) in the sight base just above the bore when you look "down the barrel" from the muzzle end. To remove, you push these sights towards the cylinder and lift the muzzle end. They have a cross pin but you DO NOT remove it.

The "pinned" front sight has a cross pin you have to press/punch out. When you install the new blade it has to be drilled, usually done with the sight in place thru the existing holes in the sight base. The new blades do not come pre-drilled. They're drilled in place at the factory. You have to be carefull or you can screw up the sight base drilling badly.

Nice!! Got it!!

Wow that was super easy. It simply pushed backward, and lifted out!!

Excellant! Thanks so much everyone.
