I’m looking into buying a 45 Shield for EDC. What kind of holster do you recommend? If I buy used what should I look out for?

My Shield is a 9mm, but I carry it either in a Vedded LightTuck IWB or pocket carry w/ a Sticky MD2. It's right on the edge of being too big for pocket carry, so the .45 would most likely be too big for that.

it's going to vary on your environment, body type and the clothes you wear. I'm a rather stocky fellow and tend to wear an untucked button down or "Polo" type with jeans when I am not at work. Usually in firearm friendly locals. As such I can get away with a Desantis, Raven, Bianchi or Galco OWB holster. With a good gun belt an OWB is the most comfortable IMHO. I find a leather pancake style to aid in concealment. However, when I head back home to NY, a notoriously firearm unfriendly location, I go for the IWB. As mentioned above the Milt Sparks is excellent and often copied. GALCO and Desantis make decent IWBs as well.

I have a pair of Dale Fricke holsters for my 4" Shield w/RDS. I find them functional for my life when that is my carry piece.

IWB either appendix, or 5 O'clock position. The IWB holster is a kydex I made my self. My shield is a 9mm. I have an IWB alien gear but i never use it.

I have my shield in a leather OWB.

I carry my Shield 9 in an leather pancake OWB exclusively. I can't tell the pancake makes any difference over a plastic IWB holster of any kind. I must have 8 different holsters. Someday you will wind up with a drawer full of holsters that looked good at the store but didn't fit you personally.

I like my Outbags USA IWB Leather Holster, it's an inexpensive yet well-made holster.

My brother got me one for Christmas a couple years ago for my SW40VE and I ended up liking it so much that I recently purchased one for my M&P40 Shield.

I'm pretty sure most of us have several holsters we've bought that are now stored away, never to be used again. I can't justify buying an expensive holster just to find out it doesn't work for me. I've settled in with an Alien Gear IWB for my Kimber Ultra Carry and my Sig P938. I find them very comfortable and they adjust for cant and ride height depending on personal use. They are multi functional so if you have different guns you can buy a separate "shell" that works for the same base. Separate shells are $12-$15. They also have models you can switch from IWB to OWB. They are guaranteed for life and you can always swap one shell for another (for free) if you change firearms. I have found a holster that works perfect for me and wouldn't look for anything different.

IWB for my Shield 9 is Concealment Express. OWB is Simply Rugged Cuda leather.
