As I've aged, it seems as though it gets darker faster, even in summer!
Since I refuse to put scopes on certain rifles, and none of my revolvers, for some years now, I've been using fluorescent orange paint (available at your local hobby store) on many of my front sights, rifle, shotgun and handguns. Just a little dab will do ya', on the top, or even down the ramp slightly.
Cheap, works great in fading and even almost dark, yet shows up black against light backgrounds. Easily removed, if you wish, and just as easily repaired.
Sorry about the low-tech answer......
