StainZ, another big thanks. Response in BOLD
If you plan on shooting it a lot, the SS PC627 is a better choice than the Al/Sc alloy framed 327. I don't feel they are the long-life frames that the SS variants are.
THANKS, GOOD TO KNOW. EXPECT GUNS TO BE IN THE FAMILY (SON) FOR 50 YEARS.
If you need the lighter weight, that's one thing.
WEIGHT WAS NOT A CONSIDERATION. I JUST WANTED THE LIGHT RAIL TO ATTACH A SUREFIRE X300 LIGHT. NEED TO DETERMINE IF THIS GUN CAN ACCOMMODATE BOTH CRIMSON TRACE AND SUREFIRE X300. SEEMS X300 MAY BLOCK THE RED BEAM.
I sold my 5" JM PC627 V-Comp to fund a 2.5" 327NG snubby for home protection. I already had a new 2 5/8" PC627 UDR, 'Blood Work' remake, from 4/10 - and loved it. Another one was literally a couple bucks more than the shelf-sitter 327NG - and is moonclip-ready, the 327NG isn't - no brainer. In my case, there was a 10 oz weight difference - that R8 is 7.8 oz lighter than your 627 - not that much. Of course, the R8 has that rail under the barrel for a laser, rocket launcher, bayonet, etc.
All 627/327's - heck, all K/L/N/X - frames of recent manufacture with adjustable rear sights - can fit a scope rail in place of the adjustable rear sight, so they all can mount a red dot or optical scope. You will be happy with that PC627!
GREAT INFO! DIDN'T KNOW THIS. TOTAL NEWBIE. MY SELECTION METHOD IS TO OFFSET LACK OF PRODUCT KNOWLEDGE BY PURCHASING PERFORMANCE CENTER GUNS WHEN POSSIBLE TO ENSURE QUALITY.
Now - .38 ammo. GA Arms reloads a harder lead 158 gr LHPSWC in .38 Spcl +P - it chrono-ed within a few fps of the similar Remington R38S12 at the range where I shoot, in 2", 5", & 6" .38 & .357M's.
LHPSWC??? WC=WADE CUTTER? WHAT IS LHPS?? I WAS PLANNING SOME VERSION OF .38 SPECIAL AT THE RANGE. PERPLEXED ABOUT USING SPEL + P FOR RANGE SHOOTING.
I keep the softer Remingtons for snubbies & carry - practice with the GA Arms. I keep ~ 10 8 x .357M moonclips loaded for the two 2 5/8" PC627's & 4" 627 Pro.
ARE YOU SAYIMG .357 AMMO IS YOUR HOME DEFENSE CHOICE?
I LIVE IN AREA WHERE HOUSES ARE ONLY FIVE FEET APART. WORRIED ABOUT PENETRATION. (ALSO MUST FACTOR IN CALIFORNIA TREE HUGGERS AT TRIAL. "HEAVILY ARMED TRIGGER HAPPY FORMER VIETNAM VET GOES POSTAL KILLING INNOCENT HOMELESS SEARCHING FOR FOOD AND MOTHER TERESA")
THINKING ABOUT USING .38 HOLLOW POINT OR MAYBE FRANGIBLE FOR HD. STILL OVERWHELMED ON HD AMMO SUBJECT.
I also have the excellent 5 Star Firearms speedloader and 2 x 8 loading plate.
NEW TO ME. WILL GOOGLE SEARCH. YOUR ARE A GREAT HELP! CAN'T THANK YOU ENOUGH.
