How do you relieve stress or cure the blues?

for me, today was less than stellar and ive been down and grumpy........but in the last hour that has changed....I go to my room, close the door, turn up the DOO WOP nice and loud and let the smooth harmony and sweet sounds take me to another place.....happy and peaceful....

I'll just say that every gun I have is spotless. I clean them, oil them, wipe the oil off and start all over again. This happened quite a few times this year. I was snowed in out here for 4 or 5 days at a time 4 or five times. My grand daughters, 5 and 11, are living here now and that can be stressful until I realized the fact that they are depending upon me for everything their parents can't or won't do. I don't really have the time anymore to get really blues or stress to any extent. And if I do, I try not to let it show for their sake. We usually just try to find something interesting to do. I've watched enough cartoons to last me a lifetime. Spring is here and fishing will be fun for all of us. The 5 year old is quite the fishin buddy.
Peace,
gordon

I'm almost 61 so I ain't dying young. I don't do the things that made me think I was going to die young in the past. I got a life I like, more things than I'll ever need, and try never to pass a day without an expression of gratitude. Lots of things in this world I don't like but I got to accept them if I want peace of mind. Stress is when a wildebeest sees the other wildebeests running and gets scared that a lion is coming. When I see them all running, if I don't see a lion, I'm just going on with my day. Joe

Now that I am retired I don't get stressed any more.............

That is passed on to my.........
Banker, stock broker, Tax man and my doctors !!

Lets see............
Golf, bowling, sports book, a movie, maybe go fishing or even shooting ?

It's said that one day St. Francis of Assisi and some of his followers were working in their garden when a man ran by shouting that the world was about to end momentarily.

The brothers asked Francis, "What shall we do, Brother?"

"Keep working in the garden," he answered.

That's what I try to do when people are crying gloom and doom.

Pretty relaxing.

My blues tend to disappear as soon as the Browns season is done. This is usually like the first week of october. It then sets into depression until the Indians start playing. Sometimes it goes downhill from there.... And yet I'm still a Cleveland sports fan.

I feel for ya, brother....I'm a Cubs Fan.

One thing I will admit has helped lately. We have a LOT of pets. 6 dogs and 19 cats. Most live outside in heated and air conditioned custom made sheds. (Missus Fan is an extreme animal lover). Lately Barney, the Head Cat has been living in the house. For the first time in his 9 years of life she's letting him sleep with us.:D

A Barney in bed with you can make almost any bad situation better.

When I'm bored, I play a bit on the computer; programming. It's not the actual writing of source code, its comming up with new algorithms or trying to. It may not sound like fun but it keeps my mind too busy to think of anything else. It also forces me to review reference material I've forgotten.

On days where its nice or semi-nice, I take my dog on her daily walk. It lets me think about generalities instead of specifics.

For me, sleeping in, nice hike, good lunch, binge watching something on netflix while I clean my guns and sit on this forum :-)

I cook. I enjoy it a bunch and having lived as an expat away from my family for months at a time in generally crappy places there is no better relief for me.

So ironic that you mentioned 5 Guys! We recently got one here in OKC & I've been wanting to try it. A couple of weeks ago I finally did. I have to say I was favorably impressed. When I walked in the first thing I noticed was that there were indeed five guys behind the counter, and a lot of shouting going on. I don't know if this is part of the experience or what. I ordered the basic burger, dragged through the garden with the addition of jalapenos, which were fresh , not pickled. Nice change. Not knowing any better, I ordered a large order of fries. BIG mistake! They lay the fries on you big time. So, next time, definitely a small order. Whataburger is still my favorite, but I'll be going back to Five Guys.:D:cool:

We got one here about 3 or so years ago. Been wanting to try them, just never in the area when the tummy rumbles. I did pass one hundreds of times in Austin too-but same thing--never went by when hungry.

There's nothing a Pastrami Rubin won't solve with a big Jewish deli style dill pickle from the barrel.

Loud music motivating me on the exercise bike is good. A walk with the dog(s). Young women of dubious or non-existent morals.

I find a trip to the raange usually does it, particularly if I take a rifle and practice some off hand shooting. The absolute conentration that offhand requires will break your train of thoughtn and get you back to feeling normal.

Here are some of the things that I have found useful over the years.
. pack up all my tent and camping gear and go spend a few days on the beach.
. fishing
. A nice cool adult beverage and some Classic C&W/lite jazz/classic rock etc depending on the mood.
. Do a few laps on the jogging/walking path in the city park behind my house.
. pig out on my favorite junk food
. These days I enjoy a day of recoil and gun smoke
. A nice fire in the chiminea out on the back deck with Miss Pam and some cocoa and marshmallows
