How does one value a "one of a kind" gun?

There is a one of a kind S&W mod. 686-4+ for sale on GB (under the search criteria of "S&W pre-lock"). It has been beautifully re-worked by Gemini. While I'm not particularly interested in buying the gun (read: out of cash ), I am curious as to how one can know what a custom one of a kind gun "should" be worth. TIA for your input.

UDR2, Guns are like anything else, they are worth what people are willing to pay for them. If you have the same 686 NIB as the used tricked out custom gun. I would rather have the origional thing.
Here is an example. I have a model 625 3" pre lock pre MIM, it is worth about $800.00.. I have over $1500 in the gun in custom night sights and other work. The gun still does not change in price, the gun is still a S&W 625 with a 3" barrel...

agreed. i had a Beretta SB compact from 1982 with a serial number of 10 haha cabelas offered me $355. i sold it for $1,700 to a collector.

a firearm has a value of the firearm itself. stock. whatever it is. and thats the value of the gun. However if it was owned by wyatt earp. someone out there will pay 75 times the blue book on it instantly.
