Around the summer of 1990, I sold my S&W Mod 5906 & purchased a S&W Mod. 1006 10mm (I Had to be one of the first kids on my block with this new toy). Well, I love Smith & Wesson and it seems that I'm one of the few who actually appreciated Smith's 3rd generation auto' pistols but... My 1006 was a complete lemon. There were times when it literally would not fire! Range sessions, with various factory loads, often resulted in a "Click, click, click, Bang!" I had sent the pistol back to S&W twice for repair with the same result. Three years after buying "The ten," I sent it back to S&W for a third time, demanding that it be replaced. By this time, the .40 had come out and all but killed the 10mm. Ammo became difficult to find and, when it could be found, the price was a small fortune (At least for my wallet). A few days after sending the pistol off, I received a phone call from a very nice lady from S&W (I can't remember her name, now). She agreed that the pistol needed to be replaced but added that they didn't have any in stock at this time and it might take a few weeks to manufacture one...... "The factory that makes these things doesn't have any in stock?!" Little red flags began jumping up around my head. Noting that she may not have the authority to do this, I asked this pleasant person if they had any 4506's in stock. "Would you rather have a .45?" She asked (Now, that is customer service)! Literally dancing with joy, I answered in the affirmative! Talk about killing two birds with one stone! Not only would I be receiving a pistol that worked, I would also be able to afford to shoot it! The 4506 was one of my favorite pistols. Function was absolutely flawless and its accuracy was... Well, this pistol shot a lot straighter than I did. As a Police Officer, I used to carry this as an off-duty gun!! My mistake. After all, the 4506 is much more appropriate as a duty gun and even then is a little heavy to be packing around all day. This became my night stand gun for the last few years but I got to the point where I never actually carried it. Eventually, this was one of those guns that "got away." Traded in for a much easier to carry/conceal SIG P239. I did love that 4506, though. And I still think the 10mm is a great defensive caliber (Providing it's in a gun that works)!

Dang. I will never part with my 4506. I had a 1006 first and wanted a 4506. The 1006 was a great gun but I too didn't like the cost of 10mm and didn't want to reload it. Nice thing is 4506's can be had for a good price these days. Mine is a old LE gun and shoots better then me as well. I had a 4526 that I kick my self for parting with. Shot better then my National Match Springfield 1911A1.

I have 2 4506-1s, a like new, mint one with fixed Novaks and police markings on the frame, and an adjustable site model, like Vic Mackey's gun on The Shield. They are tack-driving tanks and I'm keeping both.

I bought and lost a 4506-1 too. Only I bought it back! I picked one up several years ago and carried it on duty until I decided to go strictly DAO. The 4506-1 was traded in for a 4586. About a year later the guy I traded with put it up for sale and I bought it back as quick as I could. I did some custom work to it and relish it as the most accurate and soft shooting centerfire handguns that I own. I will own it until I am pushing up daisy's (and I may take it with me to the grave, I could be the first zombie that shoots back!).

I am on my third one now. And it is the best one so far. Excellent condition, a -1 and night sights. Shoots almost as good as my 645, which I am carrying now. Great guns.

I still have the 4506 I carried as a duty gun in my LEO career. I don't plan on ever parting with it. Sounds like you may need to get another one someday.

I have a 4506 and a 645. I got all excited once about a pre-29 .44 I decided I had to have, ALMOST dumped the 4506 towards it. I spent like 3 days after that being thankful I didn't do that, the 4506 is a true classic!!

I had a 1006 on order before they had been released. I got tired of waiting and bought a 4506 instead. I carried that for a few months until the 1006 came in. I decided to keep the 45 instead. In a fit of stupidity I sold it when I bought a 1911. Second worse gun mistake I have ever made. One day soon I hope to get another one.

4506

I TO HAVE A 4506 AND A 645 AND THEY ARE GREAT GUNS I WOULD NOT SELL OR TRADE MINE EITHER, I BOUGHT A TON OF MAGS FOR THEM FROM CDNN DIRT CHEAP AND THEY ARE LIKE NEW.

I also have my 4506 from uniform patrol days. It did get way too heavy with plain clothes pants. Carried a Glock 21C for a while and now carry the M&P 45.

I will never part with that 4506, it was more than my sidearm, it was my partner.

I picked up a 4505 that was in need of a few new parts. I was blown away with how good it shot after I got it up and running. It is one of the few 3rd gen S&W's we're allowed to own up here in Canada without barrel modifications. I really want a 4006 but the barrel needs to be 4.02"/106mm to be legal for me to own up here:(. I will definitely be holding on to my 4505.
