I have an older 686 and barrel is .007 from cylinder. I shot it yesterday and felt blasts on my left ear while shooting 357. My dad got some shrapnel in his chin and bled some. Cylinder has a little play how much is too much. Can it be sent back to Smith and Wesson to tighten up. Thanks for the help.

The barrel and cylinder gap is within factory specs. However, the timing may be off. That cannot be told without and examination of the revolver.

I don't know where you live, so can't refer you to any local help. Someone else on here can probably answer your warranty question. I would simply call the factory and get the word direct from them.

Just a thought or two...

Lifetime Service for the original owner for any firearm purchased on or after February 1, 1989. You should be good to go!

• 686-4 (1993): Change rear sight leaf, drill and tap frame, change extractor, introduce Hogue grips.
